Your Opportunity

Our team is seeking a Senior Substation Physical Electrical Engineer. You will be responsible for developing and leading all aspects of HV substation design. The successful candidate must have experience in the areas of substation design & project engineering from the 25kV to 500kV levels, as well as an understanding of substation components, development of single line diagrams, substation layout, and related electrical studies (clearance, grounding, isolation, etc.), rigid bus design, work planning, coordination, reporting, and cost estimating.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to meet project timelines for engineering deliverables.
  • Determine appropriate allocation of resources and track man-hours on projects.
  • Review, comment, and approve electrical design & drawings for substation construction packages for codes and standards compliance.
  • Work with the P&C team to produce complete station drawings.
  • Attend client interactions and project status meetings.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and reviews.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers working on Substation design, including interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Experience with site visits, to capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions.
  • Capable of producing station one lines, key plans (layouts), conduit plans, lightning, grounding calculations, lighting plans, station typical elevations, and BOMs.
  • Capable of writing equipment specifications and reviewing vendor drawings.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good client relationships and be able to demonstrate solid technical ability.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and designers.
  • Experience and understanding of AIS and GIS substation designs

Education and Experience:
  • Registered P.ENG in Canada
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in utility HV substation design is required.
  • Experience with site visits, FAT, to capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions is preferred.
  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$136,300.00 - $204,500.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
