Job Summary

Responsible for leading and overseeing archaeological projects, including field surveys, excavations, data analysis, report writing, and client interaction, often with a focus on managing complex projects, complying with regulatory requirements, and oversight of other Staff Archaeologists and field technicians assigned to those projects.
Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement research designs for archaeological investigations.
  • Lead field teams during surveys and excavations, ensuring proper documentation and data collection.
  • Manage project budgets and timelines, assigning tasks to staff.
  • Coordinate with clients, landowners, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to navigate project requirements.
  • Conduct detailed archaeological analysis of artifacts and features, including identification, classification, and interpretation.
  • Utilize advanced archaeological techniques such as GIS, remote sensing, and laboratory analysis.
  • Stay current with latest archaeological methodologies and best practices.
  • Prepare comprehensive archaeological reports, including site descriptions, analysis, interpretations, and recommendations.
  • Present findings to clients, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Effectively communicate complex archaeological concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ensure projects adhere to all relevant cultural resource management regulations at the state and federal level.
  • Navigate permitting processes for archaeological investigations.
  • Work with tribal representatives and cultural monitors when necessary.
  • Train and supervise junior archaeologists in field techniques, data recording, and report writing.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members on technical aspects of archaeological research.
  • Assists the Cultural Resources team with ongoing project and programs.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of work related experience
  • Strong understanding of archaeological theory, methods, and cultural history
  • Familiarity with relevant cultural resource management laws and regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Internet research; Adobe Professional (list additional software requirements - software for data management and analysis)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Sound judgment capability and ability to maintain confidentiality
