SENIOR SPACE SYSTEMS ENGINEER

LOCATION: El Segundo, CA

JOB STATUS: Fulltime

CLEARANCE: Top Secret / SCI eligibility

TRAVEL: 10%

SALARY: $140K–$160K

 

Astrion is seeking an experienced Senior Space Systems Engineer to join the Space Support to Theater (S2T2) Nexus Team, Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO), Space Systems Command (SSC), Los Angeles AFB, El Segundo, CA.

 

This is a critical role in advancing, integrating, and delivering system-of-systems (SoS)/family-of-systems (FoS) space capabilities in support of national security objectives. This is an opportunity to define the future of space operations, shape enterprise requirements, perform mission engineering, and drive integration across USSF mission portfolios.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

 

  • B.S. degree in STEM (Engineering, Physics, Earth Science, Mathematics, Operations Analysis, or related field)
  • 8+ years of experience in design, development, and deployment of space systems within the USSF or DoD mission space.
  • Strong foundation in systems engineering, mission analysis, and SoS integration
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams of government, SETA, FFRDC, and contractor personnel
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; familiarity with JIRA/Confluence is desired
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to brief complex technical topics to senior decision-makers
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Lead development and integration of cutting-edge space capabilities across current and future systems
  • Perform mission engineering analysis and evaluate Design Reference Missions for risks, gaps, and cross-domain opportunities.
  • Conduct system-level capability reviews and derive/recommend solutions to close mission-critical gaps
  • Support war room planning, capability epoch development, and kill chain assessments to inform decisions impacting the Space Enterprise
  • Develop enterprise requirements and JCIDS documentation for high-priority space programs
  • Assess policy and technical drivers impacting system design, integration, and interoperability
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to include SWAC, CSRO/S5R, and PEO offices to deliver integrated SATCOM, PNT, Missile Warning, TacISR, Launch, and BMC3 solutions
  • Prepare/present briefings, white papers, and strategic roadmaps to senior leadership
  • Provide expertise to space strategy, architecture, and hardware design for enterprise resilience and space sensing technology integration
  • Develop, analyze and assess integration strategy for protect and defend mission in support of the Increment Technical Teams
  • Evaluate/assess future space and missile SoS and FoS at cross-enterprise level, linking materiel solutions to warfighter capability needs
  • Provide cross-enterprise architecting analysis, engineering best practices, and enterprise level integration to expedite integrated space enterprise capabilities to the warfighter and inform critical modernization or recapitalization decisions
  • Create/synchronize the enterprise SoS policy and digital engineering framework to support SSC missions across multiple space programs
  • Provide expertise in support of C2, Ground Systems, and Data Transport systems
  • Support Project Leads with planning, execution, management, reporting, and completion of assigned projects
  • Develop and maintain foundational project documentation (i.e. charters, problem definitions, project plans, etc.)
  • Maintain project management and reporting tools to include schedule, OKR tracking, and PMR charts
  • Conduct project task decomposition, manage task allocation via RACI matrix or giver/receiver, and track completion status
  • Develop technical project documentation to include systems engineering artifacts, written communications, and briefings
  • Manage storage of project artifacts within Global Mission Operations Information Management Architecture
