Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Test Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and executing tests for end to end features, data flows and algorithms the power core Oura experiences across mobile apps (iOS & Android) and cloud services. You will play a key role in ensuring product quality by driving test automation efforts, reporting issues and bugs, and collaborating closely with developers to debug and resolve complex issues. You will also own and refine testing capabilities, processes, and methodologies, contributing to continuous improvements in our test capabilities and work closely with cross-functional teams across the US and Finland to deliver high-quality products.
What you will do:

Test Strategy and Planning
  • Develop comprehensive test strategies and plans for end to end features including mobile applications, backend services and data/algorithmic solutions.
  • Define testing objectives, scope, and success criteria for each test phase ensuring coverage for complex user scenarios (e.g., onboarding, sleep and readiness insights, activity tracking, notifications, subscription flows).
  • Collaborate with Product, Science, and Firmware teams to understand feature requirements, data/algorithm behavior, and any regulatory or privacy considerations.

Test Execution and Reporting
  • Execute manual and automated tests, analyze test results, and report defects, issues, and bugs in a clear, concise manner.
  • Validate data flow and algorithm accuracy, ensuring inputs from the ring and backend translate correctly to user-facing insights in the app.
  • Perform regression, integration, and exploratory testing on new features, experiments, and releases across platforms.Use and Implement big data monitoring against acceptance criteria.
  • Visualize data and metrics (coverage, defect trends, pass rates) to communicate test coverage and quality status to stakeholders.

Automation and Continuous Integration
  • Implement, maintain, and enhance test automation frameworks for mobile and API testing using for e.g., Pytest, Appium.
  • Integrate automated testing in CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Gitlab CI, Jenkins) to support continuous testing & fast feedback.
  • Ensure regression suites for ring and app experiences are stable, reliable, and provide high-value coverage for core health and engagement features.
  • Contribute to test data management and environment setup, using emulators, simulators, and test rings where applicable.

Collaboration and Debugging
  • Work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to debug issues and ensure timely resolutions.
  • Participate in planning, design, and review discussions to bring a quality perspective early in the development lifecycle.
  • Advocate for best practices in QA and continuously improve testing methods, processes, and tools.

Quality Assurance Ownership
  • Take ownership of product quality, driving testing initiatives that ensure high reliability and performance.
  • Champion quality standards, ensuring all teams adhere to best practices and processes.
  • Maintain clear, up-to-date test documentation (test plans, test cases, automation coverage, known issues) for your feature areas.

Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools and methodologies for efficient, scalable, and robust testing.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior test team members.
  • Advanced Testing & Technology Exploration
  • Explore the use of AI-driven testing approaches and tools, especially in the context of LLMs.
  • Conduct performance testing to verify that products meet performance benchmarks.

This is a Hybrid role out of our San Francisco office.
What you'll bring
  • Extensive QA and Test Automation Experience - Minimum 8+ years of Proven track record of designing, building, and executing automated tests for complex applications.
  • End-to-End Testing Experience Experience testing complex, multi-component systems (e.g., embedded software combined with mobile applications & cloud-based applications).
  • Domain Experience: Experience testing health, wellness, wearable, or data-driven applications, hardware in lab environments and validating end-to-end user experiences. Familiarity with testing algorithms and time-series or sensor-driven features is a strong plus.
  • Experience testing embedded firmware and Bluetooth-enabled devices (e.g., device-to-mobile connectivity, syncing, and reliability) is a plus
  • Proven experience validating wireless communication technologies. Analyzing and debugging wireless communication logs and traces to identify root causes of failures, performance issues, and edge-case behaviors is a plus.
  • Automation Frameworks & ToolsHands-on experience with frameworks such as Pytest, Appium, Playwright (or similar).
  • Programming/Scripting SkillsProficiency in Python is required for test automation and tooling
  • CI/CD ExpertiseFamiliarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and the best practices for continuous testing.
  • Analytical and Troubleshooting SkillsAbility to identify root causes of complex issues quickly using logs, metrics, and data, and drive solutions with cross-functional teams.
  • Communication & CollaborationStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with developers, product teams, and other stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of requirements and quality goals.
  • Experience with LLMs and AI-driven dev/test tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor)

While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
