Full Job Description
Job Duties: Lead complex technical projects involving multiple cross-functional stakeholders to proactively and automatically identify and triage risks on the Pinterest platform, designing and driving adoption of robust quality and reliability frameworks across teams. Design and implement scalable, maintainable services to provide automated, self-service, and reliable platforms that empower various stakeholders to identify and quantify risks at scale. Drive architectural improvements and technical debt reduction of the team's system by defining robust software engineering approaches for measurement, system reliability, and reproducibility. Mentor junior engineers and partners across teams to scale adoption of engineering best practices, identify process gaps, and refine team workflows. Independently and proactively triage and lead resolutions of complex production issues related to automated reporting, measurement methodologies, and proactive risk engineering.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree (or its foreign degree equivalent) in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, or closely related quantitative discipline and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or in a software engineer or in data analytical/ data science-related position.
Special Skill Requirements: At least one year in each of the following skills:
1. Python: Developing reliable, maintainable applications and data workflows using Python, including scripting, API development, automation, data processing, testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
2. SQL: Querying, analyzing, and transforming large datasets using efficient SQL, including complex joins, aggregations, window functions, data modeling, query optimization, and validation of business metrics.
3. Spark: Building and maintaining distributed data-processing pipelines with Spark, including batch and streaming workloads, ETL transformations, performance tuning, partitioning strategies, and scalable processing of high-volume datasets.
4. Jupyter Notebook: Conducting exploratory data analysis, prototyping models and algorithms, documenting technical findings, visualizing results, and creating reproducible analyses using Jupyter notebooks.
5. Git: Managing source code through Git-based version control, including branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, conflict resolution, release management, and collaborative development workflows.
6. Software Engineering: Designing, developing, testing, deploying, and operating production-quality software, with emphasis on clean architecture, reliability, observability, security, scalability, and maintainability.
7. System Design: Designing large-scale distributed systems by defining requirements, APIs, data models, service boundaries, storage solutions, reliability mechanisms, performance targets, and trade-offs for systems serving high-volume user traffic.
8. Agentic Workflow Construction: Designing and implementing AI-driven workflows that use autonomous agents to plan, reason, retrieve information, invoke tools, coordinate multi-step tasks, handle exceptions, and deliver reliable outcomes with appropriate evaluation, guardrails, and human oversight.
Full-time telecommuting is an option.
