Responsibilities The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Sr. Software Engineer - Epic Interfaces.
Working as a member of the interface team, the
Sr. Software Engineer - Epic Interfaces leads the implementation, and supervises the testing, documentation and support of enterprise-wide Integration processes using Intersystems Iris for Health based application layer/technical tools. Works directly with the Epic, and if needed UHS clinical and financial teams, in designing, developing, implementing and supporting integration solutions between the ambulatory/hospital EMRs and various third-party systems. Typically works on larger projects and systems while assisting the more inexperienced analysts on smaller projects and systems. Works with customers to understand clinical workflow, gather interface (HL7) and/or custom specifications and develop, test and implement Epic/Bridges interface solutions. Works to resolve issues or perform maintenance or enhancement tasks as assigned. Leads technical review of new and existing systems and design concepts for business and organizational needs. Provides technical support to the user community as needed. Meets deadlines and ensures continued progress toward assignment completion. Coordinates work assignments in order to meet deadlines. Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff. Shares experience and learned knowledge with other members of team.
Key responsibilities include:System Implementation:
- Communicates with users, vendors, and IS staff to develop/modify system specifications.
- Supports the implementation of applications and prepares the appropriate documentation.
- Supervises and performs system testing and documentation for all phases of the application development life cycle.
- Performs Q/A on application functionality.
- Monitors, researches and resolves implementation-related Customer Support Center Tickets.
- Adheres to appropriate UHS Project Management standards.
- Ensures strict adherence to work plans, reporting all serious deviations to management.
- Creates educational material and trains users in application use as needed.
- Designs solutions for applications and prepares the appropriate documentation.
- Assists in recommending application solutions to meet business needs
- Constructs and schedules automated processes
- Actively contributes to on-going process improvement.
System Maintenance/Support:
- Monitors, researches and resolves Customer Support Center Tickets
- Adheres to UHS Service Level and Change Management Policies.
- Provides on-call support as scheduled.
- Establishes and maintains regular communications with user community.
- Identifies potential system problems and proposes ways to avert them.
- Creates and maintains effective program documentation.
- Participates in new development, maintenance and enhancement for integration processes
- Troubleshoots and resolves customer problems of various complexities such as code defects, application configurations, networking or other issues commonly encountered.
- Sets up and configures application settings and permissions
- Provides regular updates to customers of ongoing troubleshooting and resolution efforts.
- Updates knowledge base as issues are discovered and resolved
Administration and Oversight:
- Maintains Service Excellence principles.
- Prepares and submits status reports to supervisor as required.
- Keeps management well informed of activities, needs, problems.
- Adheres to structured programming, analysis, and design techniques.
- Provides training where applicable
- Performs other tasks as required by management.
Qualifications Knowledge:
- This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and an understanding of SQL, object-oriented development, RDBMS methodology, ETL, FTP, development life cycle, source control methodologies, and project management.
- Five or more years of progressively more responsible experience relating to relational databases and programming languages, software development lifecycle, source control principles and project management concepts.
- Knowledge of HL7 programming or other custom interface development is a plus.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of current database functionality and development methodologies.
- Knowledgeable in the use and definition of relational databases.
- Knowledge of system application implementation, enhancement and support methods and practices.
- Knowledge of computer systems analysis and programming techniques and procedures, including: consulting with users to determine software or system functional specifications; design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, coding, debugging, or modification of computer systems or programs based on and related to user design specifications.
- Knowledge of IS standards and quality methods and metrics.
- Extensive knowledge of project management methods and general familiarity of user business practices, concepts and terminology sufficient to support the applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the project development life cycle.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task while effectively managing time and meeting deadlines.
- Experience with managing not only large projects but multiple small projects simultaneously.
- Epic Bridges Certification required.
Preferred Skills:
- Interface development lifecycle, project management, system analysis design, database concepts and application programming.
Training: Ongoing training required to keep jobs skills current.
Travel Requirements: 0 - 5% domestic US travel (depending on projects).
