About the role

D-Wave is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Systems Software Engineering team. In this role, you will design and build core platform infrastructure, backend services, and user-facing features that enable seamless access and reliable operation of our simulators and gate-model quantum computers. You will have the opportunity to help shape our products, contributing to highly visible, impactful projects that advance the future of quantum computing. We are looking for an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and building automated, scalable, resilient systems. You are thoughtful about engineering tradeoffs, passionate about delivering high-quality software, and motivated to raise technical standards through design leadership, mentorship, and collaboration.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and applications engineers to translate functional requirements into technical specifications and production solutions
  • Lead the architecture and implementation of reliable, maintainable systems spanning simulators, quantum processor services, and supporting platform infrastructure
  • Design and build the tooling and core software used to develop, operate, and monitor our quantum processors
  • Write clean, well-documented code, and participate in design and code reviews to ensure code quality and maintainability
  • Troubleshoot issues, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize performance and improve the user experience
  • Contribute throughout the software lifecycle from requirements and architecture through implementation, deployment, and production support
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers


About You

  • BS or higher in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, math, or physics
  • 5+ years of hands-on professional software development experience
  • Strong Python software development experience and proficiency in at least one compiled or systems programming language, such as C++, Go, or Rust
  • Experience with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy
  • Experience contributing to open-source software projects
  • Competence with cloud platforms specifically AWS
  • Proficiency in database systems and SQL
  • Competence with Git version control, build tools, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proficient with RESTful APIs
  • Use of software testing principles and practices including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing
  • Strong problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively document and communicate technical concepts
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with performance profiling and diagnosing system issues

The base pay range for this role is:

125,000 - 187,000 USD (New Haven)
