Job Description:
PurposeTo provide technical expertise, guidance and oversight on geotechnical, earthwork, utilities, ground improvement, and site development-related aspects from preconstruction through construction execution and closeout.
Responsible for providing technical guidance, managing risk, evaluating geotechnical conditions, overseeing site work activities, coaching and problem-solving field teams during the preconstruction and construction execution phases of pursuits and projects.
Works collaboratively with Developers, Field Managers, Project Managers, Civil/Structural/Geotechnical Design Professionals, Subcontractors, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and Third-Party Consultants.
Major tasks, duties, essential responsibilities, and accountabilities associated with the role:
· Participate in client, design team, preconstruction, and construction meetings, serving as a civil/site subject matter expert.
· Assist Project and Field Management teams in developing civil/site scopes, evaluating earthwork budgets, and reviewing structural/civil bid packages.
· Provide Value Engineering (VE) opportunities and advising on geotechnical, site work and environmental risk mitigation.
· Assist Field Management team with schedule input and review.
· Assist Field Management team with subcontractor coordination.
· Assist with quality control related opportunities and troubleshooting during construction phase.
· Onsite support presence as needed.
· Support safety leadership by collaborating with the Project Superintendent and Safety Department to identify site hazards and enforce OSHA compliance.
· Exhibit leadership qualities by setting a good example of the type of behavior that is expected from all Ryan employees
· Work on special projects pertaining to the overall Civil Site Specialist Team.
· Remain current with emerging civil engineering technologies, materials, and construction methodologies, disseminating knowledge to regional teams.
Experience, knowledge, skills, education, and abilities required or preferred to be successful in this role:
Experience:
Minimum of 15 years of experience in civil site development, earthwork management, utility installation, SWPPP implementation, and geotechnical coordination. Background as an earthwork superintendent is highly preferred.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is recommended.
Leadership:
Proven leadership capability, demonstrating the ability to guide field staff and subcontractors toward the timely, safe, and cost-effective completion of complex site packages.
Technical Skills:
· Deep understanding of construction drawings, site layouts, grading plans, specifications, and heavy civil logistics.
· Strong knowledge of stormwater management systems (SWPPP), environmental regulations, and geotechnical testing methods.
· Proficiency with modern construction technology.
Key Soft Skills:
Self-motivated starter with outstanding documentation, organization, and written/verbal communication habits. Ability to make objective field decisions with minimal supervision.
Physical & Logistics Requirements: Ability to travel to regional construction projects throughout the year. Must hold a current OSHA 10–Hour Certification.
