Position Summary
There is an opportunity available for a Mass Spec Senior Scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Randall Bateman, which investigates the causes, future diagnosis and treatments of Alzheimer’s disease utilizing a wide variety of assays and techniques from basic applications, such as quantitative measurement of stable-isotope labeled peptides by high resolution mass spectrometry and clinical translational studies in diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Duties in this role include operation of high-resolution mass spectrometry units and maintenance of ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) systems.

  • Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
  • Operates and assists in maintaining several Thermo Fischer Scientific Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry and Liquid Chromatography systems.
  • Leads projects and assists with grant writing, manuscript preparation and dissemination of research findings at scientific conferences and publications.
  • Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses.
  • Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers.
  • Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or routine troubleshooting. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in analytical methods.
  • Conducts literature searches related to research project.
  • Mentors junior lab members, including post-docs, undergraduate students and technicians, fostering a collaborative and dynamic research environment. Collaborates with multiple teams within the lab or within the department and assist in disseminating analysis in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards.
  • Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

$63,400.00 - $115,000.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
