Your RoleThornton Tomasetti is seeking a Roofing and Waterproofing expert to join our Façade Engineering practice and Building Envelope team. You will support the expansion of our roofing and waterproofing design, repair/restoration, and forensic services. For this position, you will have an extensive background in the design, engineering, and construction of roofing, horizontal waterproofing, and below-grade systems, including experience in investigations and litigation support services.
This role will include developing internal initiatives, strategic plans, and business development strategies at the office, practice, and wider TT levels to support TT's current roofing and waterproofing services and to drive innovation and technical excellence across the company. The responsibilities will include technical lead on complex international projects, oversight on design, investigation, and litigation projects, and serving as independent qa/qc reviewer on high-risk projects.
What You'll Do- Serve as a technical lead for roofing and waterproofing building envelope assignments, including new construction, investigation and remediation, and litigation.
- Lead, direct, and coordinate TT's technical project teams, both locally and through interoffice collaborations, for new design development, and investigations.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, resourcing, and financial performance.
- Contribute to business development activities in the areas of a new design, as well as litigation and insurance.
- Assist with managing, training, and mentoring staff.
- Ensures that projects undergo standard quality assurance activities, including design reviews, documentation checks, and design checks.
- Contribute to TT's leadership by facilitating clear communications and guidance among team leaders, promoting professional relationships internally and externally.
- Monitor team staffing and resourcing needs, collaborate with other project managers, and report to local practice leader.
- Supports the development of company standards and drives innovation relating to roofing and waterproofing consulting.
- Promote TT's services and reputation in the local and national markets.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally on a part-time basis.
What You'll Bring - Accredited degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field. Professional registration/licensure is preferred.
- More than 12 years of experience providing roofing, waterproofing, and building envelope-consulting services for large building projects (such as high-rises, airports, museums, government facilities, etc.). Experience should be demonstrated in both the design phase and construction phase.
- Experience providing expert services for litigation support, arbitration, or insurance claim assessment and evaluation.
- Knowledge and experience with field investigation methods and data collection.
- Must have strong verbal communication skills and experience with technical writing. Prior authorship of forensic reports, and prior expert testimony would be a plus.
- The ideal candidate would be a recognized leader in the roofing and waterproofing industry, with a history of involvement at universities, professional conferences, and/or technical committees.
- Roof Consultants Institute certifications including RRO, RWC, RRC certifications is preferred.
CompensationThe rate for this position generally is $139,000 - $165,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the Massachusetts Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules. It is based on what a successful Massachusetts applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in Massachusetts or perform the position from Massachusetts. Similar positions located outside of Massachusetts will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by Massachusetts Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
