This role is built for a QA automation specialist who treats test infrastructure as a first-class engineering problem: someone equally comfortable designing test coverage and building the CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and orchestration that run it. You're also curious about where AI-assisted tooling - self-healing test automation, LLM-assisted test authoring, visual AI regression - can responsibly expand coverage and cut maintenance load, and be disciplined enough to validate that output rather than take it on faith.

You will own the framework for comprehensive testing, automation, and quality across our product ecosystem, working closely with a highly skilled software, hardware, and product development team and directly with our technology leadership.

Core Responsibilities

• Own and extend the test automation framework across UI, API, and hardware-in-the-loop test surfaces, validating the larger design decisions with technology leadership, to enable high development velocity.
• Build and maintain the CI/CD test infrastructure - pipeline orchestration, containerized/ephemeral test environments, environment provisioning, and test parallelization - partnering with DevOps/SRE to keep it scalable, observable, and maintainable.
• Develop comprehensive test plans for software and hardware-in-the-loop product features; identify test scenarios, cases, and test data to ensure coverage for new and existing features.
• Maintain test cases and scripts in the Test Management System; analyze test results to help developers address underlying issues.
• Monitor production bugs to identify root causes, expand test coverage to minimize escapes and provide reports on product quality metrics.
• Triage automation failures, identify gaps between existing tests and the automation framework, and implement solutions to keep the system reliable and performant.
• Design and execute performance and scale testing, security testing, and user experience testing as requirements demand.
• Evaluate, pilot, and introduce AI-assisted testing tools - e.g., self-healing test automation, visual AI regression testing, LLM-assisted test authoring - to increase coverage and cut maintenance overhead, while validating that their output actually meets Terawatt's quality bar rather than accepting it uncritically.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software engineers on best practices for building and enhancing test suites, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams - Developers, SREs, Product Managers, and Operations - to validate end-to-end functionality.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in a Quality Assurance role, delivering high-quality, reliable products to market.
• 4+ years of demonstrable experience designing automation frameworks and developing test automation software and tools.
• Demonstrable experience leading QA projects and initiatives.
• Working knowledge of test methodologies, processes, and tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, JIRA, STLC, and test management tools like TestRail, ALM, or Zephyr; and automation frameworks or tools such as Karate, Requests, HttpRunner, TestNG, or Fiddler.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines-as-code (e.g., GitHub Actions) - not just consuming pipelines someone else built.
• Experience containerizing test environments (Docker required; Kubernetes a plus) and provisioning ephemeral or on-demand test infrastructure.
• Coding skills: proficiency in Python required; shell scripting for pipeline and infrastructure tooling is a plus.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, technical aptitude, attention to detail; self-motivated and quick to learn new concepts, technologies, and products.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; highly detail-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, or similar) for building reproducible test environments.
• Familiarity with performance, security, and accessibility testing.
• Familiarity with ETL testing, data quality frameworks, and advanced SQL is a plus.
• A plus: hands-on curiosity with AI-assisted QA tooling - self-healing locators, visual AI regression testing, or using LLMs to help generate and maintain test scripts and test data.

$110,000 - $130,000 a year

Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada

Compensation for this role is determined by several factors, including the cost of labor in specific geographic markets, and these ranges are intended to provide a helpful reference. The actual compensation offer will be based on the candidate's location, skills, level of expertise and experience, and internal equity considerations. In addition to base salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package and, where applicable, performance-based incentives.
