Job Description:
Network Physical Infrastructure SME / Technical PM role that fills a gap we currently have between CSI networking and AEC/construction.
We have an okay amount of technical capability around the logical network, configuration, cybersecurity, servers, etc. Where we continue to have a gap is somebody who can own the physical network infrastructure side from survey/audit and design through procurement, construction/installation, testing, turnover, and closeout, while also being able to PM that scope. In the past I have had to rely on Gidon or Walters for this type of stuff, and most of you know how I feel about that ;)
Think campus/building infrastructure, MDF/IDF layouts, fiber/copper, underground/conduit/pathways, cabinets, power requirements, BOMs/specifications, EC/subcontractor coordination, field issues, and ultimately being the DG point person who can bridge the conversation between our network engineers, AEC, contractors, and the customer.
Think Randy Burns 2.0 - which is something to consider if you wanted to invite someone like randy or bob B to the interview as well to get someone with more of the physical side in the mix, additionally me and randy have spoken about this type of person joining DG for a while. He was going to try to get traction on his side but never did.
Long term, I see this as helping us build out the physical infrastructure side of the network team rather than trying to make this another traditional Network Engineer position.
Kyle currently has projects for him to start on if we go this route with him. I as well do, but looking to get the person on the team/ engaged would be my primary priority.
Happy to fill in any details before Friday, but that is the basic need me and Kyle are trying to solve
