NYPA's Project Engineering work spans multiple specializations, including construction management, transmission corridor rebuilds, high-voltage substation modernization, renewable generation and storage integration, customer-energy and electrification programs, and major capital/Propel project delivery. Senior Project Engineers in this pool have opportunities to lead transformative, statewide infrastructure initiatives that directly advance NYPA's clean-energy mission and strengthen the resilience of New York's electric grid.

Some roles require a New York State PE license due to the level of technical and regulatory responsibility involved, while others do not.Responsibilities- Oversee execution of major engineering projects or programs from initiation through closeout.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, permitting, environmental, safety, and NYPA project governance requirements.
- Lead development, review, and approval of project plans, risk mitigation strategies, and forecasts.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams and facilitate collaboration among engineering, construction, vendors, and customers.
- Develop and manage KPIs, project controls, reporting, and performance metrics.
- Mentor engineers, lead onboarding, and support succession planning
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Deep knowledge of engineering project management, project controls, construction management, and asset management.
- Ability to interpret complex conditions, resolve technical challenges, and make strategic decisions.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills; ability to influence cross-functional and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage diverse multidisciplinary resources across multiple complex projects
Education, Experience and Certifications- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering or related field required; Master's preferred.
- 7-10+ years of engineering project or construction management experience depending on role level.
- New York State PE license required in some roles due to the level of technical and regulatory responsibility involved
For Project Mgmt. one or more of the following preferred:
- New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within 2 years.
- Project or Program Management Professional certification or ability to obtain within 2 years.
- Design Build Institute of America certification or ability to obtain within 2 years.
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
Physical Requirements- Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State
- Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses.
- Ability to travel to vendor facilities (worldwide) to support construction activities and to inspect equipment fabrication and commissioning for length of time needed.
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours (including weekends) when project demands.
The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $146,000 - $182,000 . The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
