Full Job Description
At RK&K, we are currently hiring a Licensed Project Engineer to join our Water Resources Division in Fairfax, VA. As a Water Resources Engineer at RK&K you will support company-wide efforts in stormwater management and drainage design, hydrology and hydraulics, and scour analysis for transportation related projects. You will be responsible for the planning, designing, and implementation of effective drainage systems to ensure efficient conveyance and management of stormwater. Your expertise in hydraulic modeling and the use of industry standard software will be essential for your role.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and deliver industry leading stormwater management strategies for transportation projects, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines
  • Conduct drainage design activities, including the analysis of existing drainage systems, designing new drainage systems and ditches, and creating appropriate plans
  • Utilize hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS to model major bridge and culvert crossings
  • Employ software tools such as Pipesoft, Culvertsoft, to design and analyze pipe networks and culverts
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations related to drainage design and stormwater management, contributing to the project deliverables and progress reporting
  • Prepare permit sketches, construction documents, specifications and cost estimates as needed
  • Perform scour analysis
  • Perform field investigations to collect data, take field measurements, photographs, sketches, and verify surveys

Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a Civil Engineer supporting transportation projects
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Advanced knowledge of drainage design, H&H modeling and stormwater management
  • Proficient with industry software: MicroStation, SWMM, Civil3d, InletSoft, PipeSoft, CulvertSoft
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS
  • Experience supporting VDOT and other local Virginia agencies
