Position Title Senior Project Engineer - Saunders North
Classification FLSA Exempt
Salary Range $85K-$90K/year
Reports to Project Manager

Purpose of the Role

A Senior Project Engineer at Saunders Construction, Inc. has mastered the Project Engineer role and serves as the lead Project Engineer on a project, potentially managing other Project Engineers. They take on greater responsibility in planning, coordinating, and problem-solving to ensure project goals are met on time and within budget. This role bridges Project Engineers, Superintendents, and Project Managers to drive seamless execution and continuous improvement.

Functions / Duties

  • Leads submittal process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely approvals with Design and Ownership teams. Guides Project Engineers as needed.
  • Regularly walks jobsite to review quality, safety, schedule, and overall progress. Recommends solutions to project team and follows through implementation.
  • Identifies, resolves, develops, and manages RFIs, working with trade partners and design teams to drive solutions. Trains Project Engineers on proper RFI procedures.
  • Assists Superintendent with field coordination efforts, including major building system integrations, and schedule updates.
  • Manages procurement schedules to align with project needs and eliminate delays.
  • Reviews subcontractor change orders for accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversees punch list completion and closeout process.
  • Supports Superintendent with scheduling, field purchasing, and quality control efforts.
  • Prepares for and facilitates major project meetings, including subcontractor and OAC meetings.
  • Mentors and trains Project Engineers, ensuring project and team success.
  • Proficient in internal project management systems and supports Project Engineers in their use.
  • Take weekly jobsite photographs to document activities and conditions of jobsite.
  • Review and verify job cost status reports and creates daily reports.
  • Correspond with subcontractors relative to administrative duties.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience

  • Two (2) plus years construction experience, preferably as a project or field engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field from four-year college or university preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Spends approximately 50% of the time sitting, and 50% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
  • Occasionally* lifts up to 50 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
  • Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
  • Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
  • Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
  • Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.
