Senior Specialist, Certifications Product Strategy

Position Summary

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is seeking a Senior Specialist, Certifications Product Strategy to lead the development and execution of clear, consistent, and engaging communications for our certification programs.

This role owns the planning, development, editing, and delivery of high-quality content across multiple channels and audiences, including certification candidates, national institutes, internal stakeholders, and executive leadership. You will help ensure that certification communications are accurate, timely, consistent, and aligned with The IIA's brand voice.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced communications professional who is an exceptional writer and editor and is comfortable managing both planned and time-sensitive communications. You will develop everything from candidate emails, web content, and social media messaging to executive communications, presentations, video scripts, and crisis or issues-related communications.

The ideal candidate brings strong writing and editorial judgment, attention to detail, cultural awareness, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, audience-appropriate messaging. You should also be comfortable independently managing multiple priorities and collaborating across teams in a fast-paced environment.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position based in Lake Mary, Florida.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and execute quarterly and annual communications plans, aligning messaging, channels, and timing with departmental priorities and The IIA's strategic plan.
  • Write, edit, and manage candidate-facing and stakeholder-facing communications across multiple channels and formats.
  • Develop direct candidate emails, program announcements, social media content, blogs, promotional messaging, video scripts, and other certification communications.
  • Serve as a primary writer and editor for corporate and executive communications, including messaging prepared on behalf of senior leadership for internal and external audiences.
  • Draft crisis and issues communications as needed and coordinate response messaging across internal stakeholders.
  • Write, edit, and maintain website copy for certification pages, ensuring content remains clear, accurate, current, and aligned with program offerings.
  • Develop communications for diverse audiences, adapting tone, terminology, structure, and examples to reflect cultural, regional, and language differences.
  • Serve as a steward of The IIA's brand voice by applying and upholding established style, tone, and terminology standards across certification communications.
  • Advise colleagues on brand voice, editorial standards, and effective communication practices.
  • Create and refine PowerPoint presentations and supporting materials for internal, external, and executive-level audiences.
  • Partner with Marketing, Institute Relations, and other internal teams to develop communication assets and ensure consistent messaging across the organization.
  • Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices that improve communication products, processes, and the overall candidate experience.
  • Independently manage multiple communications projects, priorities, and deadlines, including non-routine and time-sensitive assignments.
  • Leverage appropriate technology and AI tools to support content development, productivity, and communication efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the objectives of the Certification Department.

  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in communications, corporate communications, marketing communications, content development, or a related field.
  • Exceptional written communication and editing skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, accurate, and audience-appropriate content on deadline.
  • Strong command of grammar, style, tone, and editorial standards.
  • Experience developing internal and external communications for diverse stakeholder groups across multiple channels and formats.
  • Ability to translate technical or complex information into clear, accessible communications.
  • Strong editorial judgment with the ability to determine appropriate messaging, tone, audience, and timing.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, non-routine, and time-sensitive communications with sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work effectively with limited direction.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and work effectively across teams.
  • Ability to adapt tone, structure, and terminology for diverse audiences, including readers for whom English may be a second language.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint and Word.
  • Comfort using AI tools to support content development and efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience with corporate or executive communications, including drafting communications on behalf of senior leaders.
  • Experience developing crisis or issues-management communications and communicating sensitive or unfavorable information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Experience with global or cross-cultural communications, including sensitivity to cultural, regional, and language differences.
  • Experience using survey tools such as Microsoft Forms.
  • Familiarity with project management software, particularly Wrike.
  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus.
