Full Job Description
The Team:

Upstart's Payments team, within the Servicing organization, maintains and improves the systems and experiences that help borrowers make payments in order to stay current on their loans and recover from delinquency. The team also builds scalable payments capabilities that enable teams across Upstart to create better experiences on top of shared platform primitives.

As the Senior Product Manager, Payments, you will own product strategy and execution across this space. You'll work at the intersection of borrower outcomes and platform capabilities, helping define the evolving direction and boundaries of the Payments platform.

How you'll make an impact
  • Identify the highest-impact causes of payment failures and lead solutions that improve payment success and borrower outcomes.
  • Improve how we understand an individual borrower's ability to repay, including through thoughtful use of third-party data sources.
  • Shape a scalable Payments platform that makes it easier for teams across Upstart to build Payments capabilities.
  • Balance near-term business impact with longer-term investment in reusable platform primitives, making thoughtful choices about where to iterate, address technical debt, or build from scratch.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Design, Compliance, and product leaders across Servicing to align priorities and deliver results.
  • Define priorities, success metrics, and a roadmap that connects platform leverage to borrower and business outcomes while identifying opportunities beyond incoming stakeholder requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of product management experience owning strategy, roadmap, metrics, and delivery for a technical, transactional, or customer-facing product.
  • Experience working with payments, money movement, loan servicing, billing, or a related financial product.
  • Experience using quantitative analysis to diagnose product problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and guide product decisions.
  • Experience partnering with Engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver products, systems, or platform capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building or scaling a platform used by internal product or engineering teams.
  • Experience increasing leverage from existing systems to drive business impact.
  • Experience in consumer finance, fintech, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience working with Machine Learning.
  • Experience balancing near-term customer or business outcomes with longer-term platform investment.
  • Familiarity with using GenAI thoughtfully to improve product development, decision-making, or customer experiences.
