Full Job Description
Senior Product Engineer, Filaments and Thermoplastics

We develop and commercialize advanced 3D printing filaments and thermoplastic products. This role owns products, not experiments. You'll take formulations from qualification through production at our contract manufacturers, own the specifications and quality criteria that define each product, and stay accountable for how those products perform in customers' hands.

The work sits between materials science, manufacturing, and the customer. A strong candidate is someone who understands polymer behavior well enough to diagnose a process or field issue, but who is motivated by shipping reliable products rather than by open-ended research.

What You'll Do
  • Own assigned products end to end, from qualification and launch through ongoing production, cost, and performance
  • Manage technical relationships with contract manufacturers and toll processors, including trial planning, on-site production runs, process parameter definition, and troubleshooting
  • Define and maintain product specifications, incoming and outgoing test methods, and acceptance criteria
  • Qualify and onboard new manufacturing partners, including capability assessment, facility audits, first-article approval, and process validation
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action on production and field quality issues, working directly with suppliers to close them out
  • Lead new product introduction: scope, timeline, qualification plan, launch documentation, and handoff to sales and support
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for customer and applications questions, including print performance, material handling, and failure analysis
  • Own packaging, moisture control, storage, and handling requirements that protect product quality through the supply chain
  • Support cost, margin, and supply continuity decisions with technical judgment on second-source qualification and material substitutions

Required Qualifications
  • BS with 5 + years of experience, or MS with 3 + years of experience or PhD in Polymer Science, Polymer/Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of polymer structure to property relationships and polymer rheology, and the ability to apply it to real production and field problems
  • Experience with 3D printing or additive manufacturing, particularly FFF/FDM filament
  • Hands-on experience with melt processing, particularly extrusion or compounding, in a production or scale-up setting
  • Experience owning product, product development and/or process specifications and driving quality issues to closure
  • Familiarity with polymer characterization methods, including rheology, thermal analysis, and mechanical testing, and the ability to interpret data and act on it
  • Comfortable working on a production floor and traveling to supplier sites, roughly 10 to 25 percent
  • Clear written and verbal communication with suppliers, customers, and internal teams

Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with engineering thermoplastics such as PA, PC, PEEK, or PEI
  • Experience with filled or reinforced systems, including carbon fiber and glass fiber compounds
  • Customer-facing or applications engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of ASTM/ISO polymer test standards
  • Track record of owning commercial products through full lifecycle, including launch and sustaining
  • Experience qualifying and managing contract manufacturers, including audits and corrective action processes
  • Ability to make and defend technical tradeoff decisions involving cost, quality, and schedule
