Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Senior Principal System Test Engineer for the Command Systems team. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel (GBSD) program.

What You'll get to Do:

Through close partnership with our business and operating units, we collaboratively transform uncertain, urgent, and cross-cutting challenges into actionable, scalable solutions. By working collaboratively, we provide objective insight, align strategic direction, and accelerate the delivery of mission-critical capabilities while upholding the highest standards of quality and return on investment.

The Command Systems (CS) Test Engineer reports to the CS Execution Lead within the CS Business Unit (BU) under the CS Special Projects Organization. The Test Engineer supports the planning, execution, and analysis of integration and system-level tests for complex systems on the Sentinel program. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure test configurations, instrumentation, and data collection methods provide the evidence needed to verify requirements, support major program milestones, and drive data-driven decisions.

In this role, you will:

  • Translate urgent, ambiguous problems into clear, testable objectives while maximizing the return on investment of test and analysis activities.
  • Provide objective, data-driven insight rather than simply executing tests, helping shape technical direction and priorities.
  • Identify and troubleshoot anomalous hardware and software behavior, coordinating resolution with the appropriate engineering teams.
  • Provide insights into test data decomposition and analysis, generate test reports, and provide clear, concise technical inputs to other IPTs and program leadership.
  • Contribute to test Concept of Operations (ConOps) development and optimize test resource usage to meet schedule, technical, and program constraints.
  • Partner with diverse stakeholders across business and operating units and communicate test-driven insights clearly to support rapid, informed decisions by executive leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 Years of related experience; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Year with PhD
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
  • Sentinel Program Access on Day 1
  • 1+ Years experience in software and/or hardware testing, with a working knowledge of system integration (HW and SW).
  • 1+ Years experience with the generation and execution of test procedures and Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs).
  • 2+ Years experience creating test plans that maximize the utility of test resources while meeting schedule and technical requirements and/or constraints.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present technical information, test results, and recommendations to engineering teams and program leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating test Concept of Operations (ConOps) flows that maximize the utility of test resources while meeting schedule, technical requirements, and constraints.
  • Experience generating and supporting test data decomposition and test reports for other IPTs (e.g., systems, software, hardware, performance, reliability).
  • Experience coordinating test planning and execution across cross-functional teams (systems, software, hardware, specialty engineering, configuration management, quality) to ensure effective execution of test activities.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and environments (e.g., MATLAB, Python, or similar) for test data reduction, anomaly investigation, and reporting.
  • Experience with large, complex system development supporting or leading major program events such as SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and system verification reviews.
  • Familiarity with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) or system integration labs, including test configuration management, safety considerations, and coordination with lab operations teams.
