Description

The Senior Preconstruction Engineer's role is to assist the Preconstruction Manager, Project Manager, and other operations staff members with preconstruction pursuits from lump-sum hard bids to preliminary CM at Risk budgets. Senior Preconstruction Engineer will primarily be responsible for quantity take offs, subcontractor solicitation, and scope analyzation on assigned projects.

Position Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Construction Management, or related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of Preconstruction experience
  • General knowledge of building practices systems and assemblies
  • Experience in both hard bid and CM at Risk design-assist estimating efforts is preferred


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide preconstruction administration and technical assistance for one large, complex project ($50+ million) or multiple small/medium projects ($15+ million)
  • Work in conjunction with Preconstruction team in preparing detailed cost estimates and project budgets ranging from conceptual to GMP based construction documents
  • Review design documents and complete an accurate quantity take-off for assigned scopes of work
  • Review design iterations, addendum, updates, etc. and identify changes in scope that may result in cost changes.
  • Update internal documents (COB and estimate) to reflect the changes and adequately communicate said changes to subcontractors to insure inclusion in subcontractor's pricing
  • Review project construction schedule and assist in preparation of general conditions
  • Identify and solicit subcontractors for various preconstruction pursuits and ensure adequate subcontractor coverage in each scope of work
  • Communicate with subcontractors regarding involvement/interest in preconstruction pursuits and diligently follow up to review project scope and pricing prior to bid day
  • Actively review scope and quantity information with subcontractors in advance of bid day
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts and missing information by preparing, tracking, submitting, and distributing preconstruction Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Help identify and prequalify new subcontractors
  • Assist with purchasing and issuance of subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Assist with conceptual estimating of preliminary preconstruction pursuits
  • Lead training of other team members as directed


Knowledge Requirements:

Senior Estimator must become proficient in and be capable of training other employees in the use and execution of the following systems:
  • Preconstruction standards and procedures
  • Subcontractor database management and utilization
  • Subcontractor bid pricing review and comprehension
  • Comparison of Bid (COB) creation and analyzation
  • General knowledge of building practices, systems, and assemblies
  • Juneau estimate set-up and organization
  • On-Screen Takeoff
  • EarthWorks Pro
  • Procore Project Management Software
  • Project solicitation creation, issuance, maintenance, and updating
  • Subcontractor database organization and updating
  • Estimate notebook setup and organization

Job Expectations:
  • Position may require extended periods of time sitting and/or standing, talking both in person and over technological avenues, lifting up to 20 lbs. as needed
  • Position may require travel within the Juneau Construction Company footprint to jobsites and additional office locations for various events and meetings as needed.
