Full Job Description
The Skylark product line is focused on the rapid design, build, and test of cutting-edge active phased array antennas (AESA) for terrestrial and airborne applications. Current programs span high-power, large-scale ground terminals for missile defense to commercial airline and helicopter connectivity solutions. We are looking to add a Senior Power Electronics Engineer II to our team. If you enjoy working in a startup environment and are passionate about developing leading-edge power electronics for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems, we would like to hear from you. At the Senior level, you will be tasked with full-stack power electronics development. You will have the opportunity to start at concept development and progress through detailed design, analysis, board layout, testing, and delivery, doing hands-on work at each phase. At a small company and a startup, your work will make direct contributions to the success of the business. The work is challenging and impactful, requiring both breadth and depth of technical knowledge. Our products are made for high-reliability space and airborne applications, so designs require high levels of technical rigor while maintaining the agility of a startup environment. The successful candidate will also present engineering design review materials to our customers and executive team. As such, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Own end-to-end design of power converters, and power management and control circuits, from concept and architecture definition to schematic, printed circuit board (PCB) design, testing, qualification, production transition and production support. • Perform detailed and complete schematic design for low to high complexity power electronics designs , ranging from single power converters to mukti-output power supply modules and power management circuitry. • Perform detailed PCB layout in Altium Designer independently or in collaboration with a PCB Drafter. • Perform modeling and analysis of analog and power electronics designs including worst-case circuit analysis, stress analysis, small signal and stability analysis, power loss and efficiency optimization analysis, and power integrity analysis. • Develop design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans for power converters and power supply designs. • Perform bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics circuits and modules, often working with a technician or junior engineer to complete design verification. • Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering team and lead system integration and qualification campaigns, and release analog and power electronics designs to production. • Mentor junior engineers to build technical understanding and foster professional development of team. • Perform research and keep up with new power electronics technology and industry trends to drive innovation and generation of intellectual property. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. • Minimum of 6 years of industry or university research experience in board-level power electronics design, analysis, and test. • Experience owning the design phase of power electronics or power subsystems, including power architecture and requirements definition, trade studies, power converter and analog electronics design, component selection, and detailed design. • Experience performing or guiding complex PCB layout for analog and power electronics. • Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, or MathCAD • Strong laboratory testing and troubleshooting experience for prototyping, design verification testing and qualification of analog and power electronics hardware. • Direct experience designing high-reliability electronics for automotive, space or defense applications, including part derating, worst-case analysis, and thermal constraints. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE • Experience delivering subcircuit or board designs to production and deployment. • Proficiency in printed circuit board design tools such as Altium, OrCAD/Allegro, PADS/Xpedition, or similar. • Experience running board-level power integrity simulation tools such as Ansys SiWave, ADS SIPro, or HyperLynx. • Design for space radiation environments. $133,000 - $161,000 a year CesiumAstro considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills. Full-time employment offers include company stock options and a generous benefits package including health, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, life, disability and retirement plans.
