Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Ports Transportation Planner to join our growing team in Canada.

In this senior-level role you will have extensive experience in developing transportation planning and policy initiatives, including port-wide, local area and/or site-specific plans as well as implementing strategies and action plans related to regional transportation decisions in and around ports across Canada to achieve transportation needs. Multi-modal transportation access to port infrastructure including for cruise ship passengers, freight movement and connections, and regional context for transportation decisions will also be areas of focus for this role.

You will support a range of port and marine transportation focussed planning projects, business cases, strategy development and major projects.

You will have a passion for sharing your knowledge and for being an advisor and mentor to your team, building skill sets and capability within the team.

The ideal candidate will also have experience leading consultation programs with stakeholders, agencies, and the public, and multi-modal transportation planning. You should have extensive technical expertise, strong project management and strategic problem-solving skills. You will lead/manage complex, multi-disciplinary, and strategic projects, as well as overseeing detailed technical studies. The range of work will include ports and marine transportation projects including master plans, transportation infrastructure projects, feasibility studies, as well as transportation economics and equity, among other areas.

You will lead the development and implementation of ports planning solutions, manage client relationships and business development at the senior management level, and provide oversight and mentorship to a dynamic team when collaborating on projects.

The senior planner will undertake transportation planning projects and studies that focus on improving road, rail and transit access for ports, including studies to assess transportation service needs, infrastructure requirements and potential expansion opportunities.

Role accountabilities:

• Develop and nurture relationships with key clients and identify key opportunities for the team to pursue.
• Manage/lead ports planning projects including supervising the project team and undertaking and overseeing project tasks.
• Provide expert guidance and technical oversight in the development of innovative road, rail and transit access solutions and ensure work meets standards and client expectations.
• Support multi-disciplinary projects collaborating across Canada and various business units and provide technical reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Lead/manage ports planning projects including access needs and feasibility, data analysis, policy analysis and operations analysis, and development of plans and policies.
• Lead/manage major ports studies, involving the need and justification for new projects, analysis of alternatives, transportation system/network planning and operations, transportation master plans, new mobility choices, and sustainable transportation.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in ports transportation planning, incorporating new strategies to improve efficiency and sustainability.
• Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure deliverables meet required standards and specifications.
• Build and maintain strong business relationships with public and private sector clients, and stakeholders including relationship management at senior management levels to ensure alignment with broader goals.
• Support business development efforts, including identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and presenting to prospective clients.
• Stay current with Canadian market conditions, including transportation policies, standards, and trends.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Planning or a related field.
• Registered Professional Planner (RPP) Certification or equivalent.
• 15+ years of relevant planning experience, including leadership of the development and implementation of ports transportation solutions related to sustainable programs.
• Recognized expert in ports planning.
• Proven project success on various sized projects including effective direction of project teams for project execution.
• Strategic problem-solving skills and advanced technical knowledge in transportation planning.
• Strong professional consulting skills, including project management, client relationship management, and commercial acumen at senior management levels.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver professional presentations.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines concurrently.

Preferred:

• Experience leading ports and marine transportation master plans for major clients.
• Experience winning and leading mid to major size projects.
• Understanding of Canadian public and private sector client needs and policies.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000 The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
