Compensation: C$75,000-C$95,000 annually, depending on experience, plus performance-based bonuses

Experience: 5+ years of relevant Ontario paralegal experience; 7+ years preferred
We are looking for an experienced Ontario paralegal who can independently manage a broad range of legal matters involving residential tenancies, Small Claims Court litigation, collections, and judgment enforcement.
About the Role

This is a hands-on litigation role for someone who can take ownership of files from beginning to resolution.

The successful candidate should be comfortable assessing new matters, identifying legal and procedural issues, preparing the required materials, appearing before courts and tribunals where permitted, and managing a high volume of active files.

Key Responsibilities
Small Claims Court

  • Manage plaintiff and defence matters from commencement through resolution.
  • Defend claims brought against the company and commence claims where appropriate.
  • Prepare pleadings, motions, affidavits, evidence, and settlement materials.
  • Conduct Small Claims Court trials and other permitted appearances.
  • Prepare witnesses, conduct examinations and cross-examinations, and make submissions.
  • Handle procedural issues involving service, defaults, and court orders.
  • Assess liability, damages, litigation risk, and settlement opportunities.

Landlord & Tenant Board

  • Manage landlord-side LTB matters involving rent arrears, tenant damage, interference, behavioural issues, and termination of tenancies.
  • Handle owner-use, purchaser-use, renovation, demolition, and related matters.
  • Prepare notices, applications, evidence, and hearing materials.
  • Conduct LTB hearings and negotiate resolutions where appropriate.

Collections & Enforcement

  • Manage a high-volume portfolio of outstanding receivables and collection files.
  • Assess debts for enforceability, limitation issues, recovery potential, and economic viability.
  • Commence proceedings and negotiate payment arrangements where appropriate.
  • Take available steps to enforce judgments and recover outstanding balances.
  • Develop efficient recovery strategies across a large volume of smaller debts.

What We're Looking For

  • Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant Ontario paralegal experience; 7+ years preferred.
  • Strong hands-on Small Claims Court litigation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience personally conducting Small Claims Court trials.
  • Strong landlord-side LTB experience.
  • Experience with plaintiff and defence matters, motions, procedural issues, collections, and judgment enforcement.
  • Strong advocacy, legal drafting, negotiation, and file-management skills.
  • Ability to independently assess files and determine the appropriate next steps.
  • Comfortable managing a high volume of active matters at the same time.

Compensation

C$75,000-C$95,000 annually, depending on experience, trial exposure, LTB experience, collections and enforcement experience, and overall fit.

Performance-based bonuses may also be available.
