SummaryNYPA is seeking a highly motivated professional with prior nuclear industry experience for the position of Senior Nuclear Risk Specialist. This role reports to the Vice President of Enterprise and Operational Risk and is integral to NYPA's nuclear risk management efforts. The successful candidate will identify, assess, verify responses to, monitor, and report on risks across the nuclear portfolio, working closely with project, business unit, and corporate teams to ensure robust risk management practices are embedded within complex operational strategies while performing the second line oversight function. The role will provide assurance the business is effectively managing risk within the risk appetite using risk analysis and modelling to assess probability of specific safety, reputational, financial, operational, legislative/regulatory, and environmental risks in order to evaluate potential impact and likelihood. #LI-VB1
Responsibilities- Support the Enterprise and/or Operational Risk team in working with management and staff to facilitate the Enterprise and/or Operational Risk process for risk identification, definition, assessment, analysis, mitigation, and monitoring throughout.
- Update and establish risk registers for enterprise, operational and project risks that may have significant impacts on the organization.
- Develop (as needed) standard and custom risk reports for various levels of the organization including the Executive Risk and Resilience Management Committee (ERRMC), Executive Management Committee (EMC), and the Board of Trustees (Risk and Resilience Committee).
- Lead the ongoing development and reporting of Key Risk Metrics for enterprise, operational and other related risks.
- Facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance, and management of Enterprise and/or Operational Risk policies, supporting procedures, and frameworks.
- Provide support on the implementation and on-going operation of the Enterprise Governance, Risk, and Compliance (EGRC) software module specific to the Enterprise and Operational Risk Management (EORM) program.
- Support the EORM Team in the development of training materials and assist in conducting EORM education/training to various levels of Business Units management and staff.
- Confirm ongoing effective alignment of the enterprise and operational processes with Internal Audit, Asset Management, Business Controls, Compliance, Environmental Health and Safety, and the Strategy Office.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Advanced knowledge of various types of risk including, Model, Nuclear, Enterprise, Operational, Asset and Project level risks.
- Strong knowledge of Enterprise-wide Risk management program development and implementation including best practices, frameworks, and associated software systems.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, multi-task, and meet established deadlines consistently.
- Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and/or statistical analysis packages, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, [redacted] and MS Visio.
- Must have excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise summary and insight.
- Thorough familiarity with established EORM frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO31000) and their practical applications.
- Strong understanding of nuclear generation assets and environment
- Strong knowledge of Enterprise and Operational Risk Management best practices as they apply to the energy/utility industry.
- Strong understanding of NYPA's generating and transmission facilities
- Strong understanding of the NYISO energy marketplace.
- Track industry operating experience (EPRI, NRC), identify emerging risks, and update models accordingly
- Participate in industry working groups, peer reviews, and risk methodology development
- Serve as a subject matter expert on nuclear risk, providing training and mentorship to engineers and station personnel
- Communicate complex risk concepts to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders, including senior leadership
Education, Experience and Certifications- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another related field preferred.
- A minimum of 6 years direct or indirect experience relevant to the risk management arena including areas such as risk analysis, dashboard reporting, integration of business processes and development/implementation of risk programs (preferably an EGRC system).
Physical Requirements- Flexibility to work overtime, as needed, will be required.
- Valid US driver's license
- Ability to travel within NYS (up to 25%)
The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $123,000 - $169,400. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
