ABOUT THE TEAMModern threats move fast, adapt faster, and don't wait for legacy systems to catch up. The Maneuver Air Defense team exists to close that gap - putting the tools for safety-critical decisions directly in the hands of warfighters operating on condensed timelines in contested environments. We're building the air defense that the modern battlefield demands. We build vehicle-based and expeditionary systems that push the boundaries of design on multiple fronts. Our approach prioritizes ruggedized, lightweight, tightly packaged solutions that offer modularity while maintaining the manufacturability required to scale production at low cost - without compromises to our mission. The result is products and systems that are highly accurate, reliably self-calibrating, scalable, and attritable. They operate autonomously to provide robust mobile fire control capabilities at the edge, effectively closing the kill chain while contested and moving.
ABOUT THE JOBThis position will own rapid development of systems and subsystems from concept to production. You will work in a small, high-ownership team where engineers take pride in the products they deliver. The ideal candidate has an interest in rapid-prototyping and iterative design as well as high growth mindset and a strong attention to detail. The engineering opportunities at hand are demanding - individuals joining this team must have a high capacity to work cross-functionally and be invigorated by solving challenges on tight timelines.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Own and drive the mechanical design of ruggedized, vehicle-based subsystems structures, and mechanisms from concept to low rate production
- Apply first-principles engineering and physics to every design decision.
- Build and test prototypes of complex electromechanical systems, and iterate quickly based on the results.
- Spearhead design reviews, conduct analysis, visit vendors, prototype and implement hardware test plans to ensure reliability in the harshest environments on earth.
- Balance operational needs across vehicle subsystems while optimizing for development speed, mass, manufacturability, and cost.
- Work in close partnership with other disciplines to ensure the electrical, software, and mechanical systems collectively form a reliable, flexible, cost-effective system.
- Cultivate a vibrant, positive, dedicated, high-energy, educational, and enjoyable community environment.
- Support critical hardware demonstrations and field events with internal and external customers.
- Travel to test sites and vendors as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Self-starter with 8+ years of mechanical or electromechanical design experience in a professional setting.
- Passionate about engineering and strong attention to detail
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in immersive technical projects (Formula SAE, Baja SAE, SAE Aero, etc.).
- Demonstrated hands-on fabrication and rapid-prototyping skills.
- 3D CAD proficiency (any platform) and the ability to apply GD&T to produce high-quality engineering drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience with NX and Teamcenter.
- MEng, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience taking ruggedized electromechanical assemblies from concept to low-rate production for automotive, space, or military applications.
- Ability to integrate electronics into mechanical designs (motors, controllers, sensors, radars, etc.), including packaging, thermal management, sealing, and cable harnessing.
- Experience with production processes (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, welding, wire harnessing, 3D printing) to inform design for manufacturability.
- Experience with vehicle-mounted or expeditionary systems.
