Overview

This position is in the Modularization & Constructability team and requires an individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently and developing his/her career and experience in the nuclear field.

The candidate shall be able to apply mature engineering knowledge to direct and supervise other professional engineers, to plan, coordinate, and complete the assigned preassembly and constructability scopes or tasks and develop necessary engineering design documentation as required.

Your role

  • Perform Engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulation requirements.
  • Coordinate and interface with clients, suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines or departments to execute assigned constructability engineering work.
  • Involve in conceptual, preliminary, and/or detailed design of CANDU off-site pre-assembly and construction packages.
  • Participate in development of construction methods and sequences for nuclear equipment and piping skids.
  • Develop plans for off-site pre-fabrication, pre-assembly, transportation, and installation for equipment and piping skids.
  • Review technical documents including drawings, constructability reports, and procedures.
  • Develop technical reports such as constructability, risk-review, and assessment reports for preassemblies.
  • Develop or support construction plans including but not limited to sequence strategies, schedule, and MTO.
  • Prepare technical documents, such as engineering drawings (including GA, ISO, pipe supports, flow diagrams), calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, data sheets, system classification lists, code classifications, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support module fabrication and procurement.
  • Review supplier technical documents and perform technical bid analyses.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to Engineers, Designers/Drafters and more junior staff as required.
  • May be requested by Engineering Manager to lead technical packages with a small or large team of Engineers, Designers, and Coordinators.
  • Perform site visits to client and supplier shops as required.
  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases as required.
  • Support field construction and execution activities, such as field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.
  • Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within a given budget and schedule, and in good quality.


About you

  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Having a P.Eng. license for this position is mandatory.
  • Qualified or eligible to be qualified as ASME Appendix XXIII is an asset.
  • Minimum 8 Years of related work experience including 3 Years of field engineering within a heavy industrial environment with emphasis on constructability.
  • Preassembly/offsite work experience is a must. Nuclear work experience is an asset.
  • Design engineering experience in nuclear class 1, 2, 3 and 6 piping systems, valves, and pumps for Nuclear Power Plants is an asset.
  • Experience in AutoPipe, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Mechanical (APDL preferred or Workbench), and LS-DYNA, or other similar software programs is an asset.
  • Site Experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical and structural systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel advanced tools and other database applications.
  • Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA B51, CSA N289, ASME Section III and ANSI B31.1 codes, and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, and 3D Model reviewer such as Navisworks.
  • Must have knowledge of mechanical, structural and piping systems or equipment (knowledge of CANDU nuclear systems would be an asset).
  • Shall have excellent technical document reviewing and writing skills.
  • Must be able to apply technical principles in a logical and practical manner to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Must be willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), although this will not be a regular requirement as part of the job.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
