Full Job Description
Position Summary:

Voya Energy is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Mechanical/Electrical Technician to build, install, troubleshoot, and maintain the complex mechanical and electrical systems essential to the development and scaling of our metal-fueled generator technology. This is a senior role for a seasoned, hands-on technician who is comfortable moving between metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, electrical work, and instrumentation, and who brings the judgment that comes from a long track record in demanding industrial environments. The ideal candidate can read and work directly from P&IDs and electrical schematics, diagnose problems across mechanical and electrical domains, rebuild critical equipment such as centrifugal pumps, and own safety processes for the work and facilities around them. This role works closely with mechanical engineering, power electronics, automation, data and controls to bring hardware from development through production, and carries significant technical and team leadership responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Metal Fabrication: Fabricate components and assemblies using machining, welding, sheet metal, and related shop processes, working from engineering drawings and GD&T callouts.
  • Mechanical Installation & Assembly: Install and integrate precision mechanisms, material conveyance and fluid-handling systems, blending commercial and custom components.
  • Troubleshooting, Repair & Rebuild: Diagnose, repair, and rebuild rotating and fluid-handling equipment including centrifugal pumps, blowers, and valves, restoring equipment to specification.
  • Electrical Work: Install, troubleshoot, and maintain low voltage and high voltage power electronics and wiring, working safely from electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Instrumentation & Data Systems: Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot system instrumentation (pressure transducers, flow meters, thermocouples) and supporting data acquisition systems.
  • Industrial Plumbing: Lay out, build, and maintain industrial piping and fluid systems in accordance with P&ID documentation.
  • Facilities & Resource Buildout: Build out and improve company resources and facilities, including shop, lab, and test infrastructure, to support a rapidly scaling operation.
  • Safety Ownership: Own, establish, and continuously improve safety processes and standards across shop, lab, and test operations, leading by example and holding the team to a high safety bar.
  • Reading Technical Documentation: Interpret and work from P&IDs, electrical schematics, fabrication drawings, and work instructions.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant hands-on experience as a mechanical, electrical, or multi-craft technician in an industrial setting.
  • Demonstrated skill in metal fabrication (machining, welding, sheet metal).
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical installation, troubleshooting, repair, and rebuild of equipment such as centrifugal pumps, blowers, and valves.
  • Ability to read and work from P&IDs and electrical schematics/drawings.
  • Required experience with both low voltage and high voltage power electronics.
  • Required knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with industrial plumbing and fluid systems.
  • Experience building out company resources and facilities (shop, lab, and test infrastructure).
  • Demonstrated technical and team leadership experience.
  • Track record of owning and improving safety processes.
  • Industry background in aerospace, automotive, chemical, or energy strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable working in an environment based on accountability: scope, schedule, budget, 2-way feedback and collaboration.
  • Familiar with modern engineering collaboration toolsets: Confluence, Slack, Asana, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, start-up environment. Hands-on and biased towards action.
Location

What we offer:
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
  • Unlimited PTO
