Full Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our Internal Manufacturing Engineering team that is responsible for delivering polymer science, extrusion processes, data acquisition / analysis, and industry 4.0 standards and practices. To thrive at Markforged, you must be able to work well in multi-disciplinary teams consisting of mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers. The Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer will be responsible for sustaining product quality, process design, production efficiency, supplier management, driving product cost reduction and product consistency.

What will you own?
  • Serve the process engineering team as a technical expert for existing and new Markforged materials in the Billerica production facility
  • Lead the design, and build out processes to validate material specifications, critical-to-quality (CTQ) functional requirements, and full system performance
  • Provide direction and guidance on continuous improvement projects to increase throughput, improve quality, reduce costs, and enhance safety. Analyze and benchmark alternatives and conduct cost comparisons. Work with manufacturing and Materials Engineering to identify opportunities and provide recommendations
  • Oversee extrusion line maintenance requirements and relay issues to the maintenance team to ensure work cell continuity
  • Interface with development teams to help define measures appropriate to assure the quality and reliability of the materials.
  • Work with MFG Quality team to define specifications and root cause of any issues of non-conformance.
  • Review engineering change requests; discusses feasibility with product development committee; develops and oversees preparation and implementation of all material engineering change requests.
  • Drive effective corrective and preventive actions in response to validation and field/customer failures.
  • Model industry best practices and set workmanship standards while mentoring junior engineers and technicians in the plant
  • Oversee production development activities from alpha/beta runs, initial pilot launch, and into production scale up and sustaining phase
  • Manage cross functional business initiatives to maintain alignment with R&D, manufacturing and Materials Engineering Groups
  • Create production level documentation (WIs / SOPs / ECOs) to a high technical standard
  • Develop and implement investment proposals to support Markforged's business initiatives in the areas of extrusion and related processes.

What you have:
  • B.S. in mechanical, industrial, plastics or process engineering (M.S. preferred)
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in a continuous manufacturing environment
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems, industrial automation equipment, closed loop control/inspection equipment, high-precision laser technology, hard tooling fabrication and extrusion equipment preferred
  • Strong grasp of mechanical drawings, GD&T, and detailed mechanical/ electrical schematics
  • Proficient in 3D modeling, solidworks, Fusion 360/EPDM experience
  • Experience implementing LEAN / Six Sigma methodologies (green/black belt preferred)
  • Demonstrated understanding of physics/material fundamentals.
  • Detailed understanding of statistical process controls, control plans, process automation, human factors, FMEA, and RCA methodologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - can convey complex technical topics in simple terms across internal departments
  • Extremely motivated and organized individual who can be self-directed in both team-based and individual settings
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capital project management experience.
  • Passion for additive manufacturing, and experience with 3D printers


Salary Range

The salary range for this role is expected to be about $60-70 per hour. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, geographic location, certifications, licenses, business needs and the applicant's skill set.
