ResponsibilitiesDescription:This posting is for a Sr. Ceramics Engineer and will be located at Howmet Research Center in Whitehall Michigan. This role will act as a subject matter technical expert in ceramic and other non-metallic materials used in the production of aerospace and power generation investment cast components and related processes, including raw material processing, laboratory testing as well as root cause analysis of process and material challenges. Travel to Howmet and supplier facilities is required and is typically less than 15% but may vary depending on business needs.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:- B.S. Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Ceramic Engineering or comparable field from an ABET accredited institution and 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education.
- Broad experience in the processes and materials used in the manufacture of engineered ceramics.
- Familiarity with material testing techniques used in the characterization of the structure and properties of nonmetallic materials including optical and electron microscopy, density, particle size, sieve testing, viscosity, MOR and dilatometry as well as various other rheological methods.
- Ability to effectively communicate with suppliers, production facilities, technical teams, and leadership on projects and technical efforts across the business in the form of in-person meetings, conference calls, emails and formal technical reports.
- Strong reasoning and critical thinking skills to drive root cause and resolution of product and process challenges in a broad range of areas.
- Ability to keep current with industry trends and changes in raw material suppliers for materials critical to Howmet Aerospace.

- This position is subject to the Internal Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.
Preferred Qualifications:- 12+ years of experience in industry in a ceramic related discipline.
- Experience in industrial milling, blending and firing processes used in processing of ceramics.
- Familiarity with investment casting, forging or mineral processing is desirable but not required.
- Training in Six Sigma principals and their application to production processes.
