About the Job
The Senior Manager - International Security Operations will direct, oversee, develop, and manage aviation security professionals who: (1) conduct security audits of our operations worldwide and ensures compliance with U.S. and foreign security requirements; (2) ensure the Company's compliance with U.S. and foreign security requirements including identifying and implementing changes to domestic and international security programs, requirements, and standards; (3) implement and manage the Company's security management system; (3) build key operational relationships with the Department of Homeland Security - particularly the Transportation Security Administration and its foreign equivalents - to further our operations, initiatives, goals, and interests while advocating for United's employees and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage global aviation security professionals including at headquarters, within the U.S., and in foreign countries.
Serve as a subject matter expert for aviation security compliance and lead audits to advise and assess the Company's compliance with security requirements - including both passenger and cargo operations.
Advocate for policy changes to improve the security of United's operations and further the interests of our employees and passengers - including directly to the Department of Homeland Security and its foreign equivalents as well as through participation in industry groups and international organizations (e.g., Airlines for America, International Air Transport Association, and International Civil Aviation Organization).
Manage United Security Management System (SeMS).
Conducts security risk assessments of our operations and policies.
Note: This is a Chicago-based hybrid role, with significant travel requirements (both domestic and international).
Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
Bachelor's degree
The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
5+ years of experience implementing and executing aviation security policies, programs, and procedures at an air carrier (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of experience leading others
Knowledge of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) its regulations, and the international equivalent regulations / IATA security standards / ICAO Annex 17
Knowledge of airport and airline operations
Diplomacy in dealing with regulators / strategy development / communication with senior level leadership
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Master's degree
2+ years' experience in airport operations
3+ years' experience interacting with Transportation Security Administration at an international airport or at an enterprise level
Demonstrates an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of generative AI tools and effectively leverages them to support research, analysis, content creation, and problem-solving. Apply critical thinking to validate AI-generated outputs while adhering to organizational policies for responsible AI use, data privacy, and security.
