About the Role:Crusoe is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Core Backend team in our Cloud Customer Experience (CCX) organization. Core Backend builds the shared services that every Crusoe Cloud product depends on: quota management, customer notifications, organization onboarding and KYC, and the API framework that sits in front of our backend services. Customers rely on these systems to sign up, get access to the capacity they are entitled to, and hear from us when something changes on their account. Product teams rely on them so they can launch on Crusoe Cloud without building their own quota, notification or onboarding systems.
You will lead a team of backend engineers, partner with the team's product manager, and set technical direction for services that sit on the path of every customer request. This is a full-time, hands-on management role for someone who has led backend or platform teams, can go deep on distributed systems design, and can weigh requests from many internal teams against one roadmap.
What You'll Be Working On:- Shared services for product teams: Own the services other Crusoe Cloud teams build on, including quota management, the notification service and the API framework, so a new product can launch without building its own versions of them.
- Quota management: Run the system of record for what each organization and project can consume across GPU, compute, storage and networking, along with the request and approval workflows that change those limits.
- Customer onboarding: Lead self-serve onboarding, organization state management and automated KYC, and work with risk and security partners on fraud prevention for self-serve customers.
- Customer notifications: Own the service that sends email, in-console, webhook and Slack notifications to Crusoe Cloud customers.
- Reliability and operations: Set and meet SLOs for the team's services, run on-call and incident reviews, and move long-running operations onto durable workflows.
- Technical direction: Guide architecture decisions with the team, including API standardization across services and breaking apart monolithic services, and make the tradeoffs between new features and platform work.
- Cross-functional partnership: Work with Product, Customer Success, Security and the other CCX teams (Billing, Identity and Access Management, Client Interfaces and Admin Tooling) to set one roadmap from many requests.
- Team building: Hire, mentor and grow engineers, including filling open roles on the team.
What You'll Bring to the Team:- People leadership: 2+ years managing software engineering teams, including hiring, performance management and career development for engineers at different levels.
- Backend engineering: 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services in Go or another compiled language (Rust, Java or C++). Our services are primarily written in Go.
- Distributed systems: Experience designing and running distributed systems or cloud platform services, including versioned APIs (gRPC or REST), relational databases such as PostgreSQL, and message queues such as Kafka, NATS or Pub/Sub.
- Operations: Experience owning customer-facing production systems, including SLOs, monitoring and alerting, on-call and incident response.
- Platform mindset: A track record of leading a team that serves other engineering teams, and of setting priorities when several teams need something at once.
- Communication: Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical tradeoffs to engineers, product managers and non-technical partners.
- Education: Bachelor's degree minimum.
Bonus Points- Quota and entitlement systems: Experience building quota, rate limiting or entitlement systems for a cloud provider or multi-tenant platform.
- Onboarding and risk: Experience with customer onboarding, KYC or fraud prevention systems.
- Workflow engines: Experience with Temporal or similar workflow engines, or with state machines and reconciliation loops for long-running operations.
- API platforms: Experience building API gateways or API frameworks used by many engineering teams.
- AI infrastructure: Familiarity with GPU cloud platforms or AI infrastructure.
