Job Description:

The Senior Manager - Electrical & Software Engineering will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee activities of the Electrical & Software Engineering teams focused on BWCS's "Vision" product lines. This individual will work closely with the engineering team to ensure resources are being allocated efficiently to support BWCS's strategic product development initiatives. The role will require this individual to engage and collaborate with other departments and functional leaders in support of the overall strategy for the business.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains engineering staff in the department.
  • Manages the backlog of each engineer on the team.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.


Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with Product Management and Project Management in prioritizing work and allocating engineering resources to ensure key projects are getting done on time.
  • Actively track where the Engineering teams' time is being spent and identifying ways of maximizing time spent on New Product Development initiatives.
  • In support of Project Managers, completes cost and resource commitment analysis for development projects and assists them in preparing development schedules.
  • Aligns team activities to meet and/or exceed monthly financial commitments.
  • Ensures that projects are completed within budget and in an economical manner.
  • Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the company's engineering initiatives.
  • Identify areas of strength and potential weakness within the engineering department and establish action plans appropriately.
  • Mentor early-career teammates and motivate the engineering department to build upon each other's strengths.
  • Provide technical support/expertise for executives outside engineering.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies, tools, and / or systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making.
  • Supports engagement with design partners and vendors who are key to executing product roadmap, new technology development, addressing obsolescence, and/or fulfilling orders.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
  • Drive engineering team to support the larger cross-functional organization (including manufacturing, supply chain, and aftermarket / field service) to ensure BWCS-IET's success with customers.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development related to the organization's industry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Software Engineering required
  • At least ten years of related experience required.
  • Knowledge of Color Theory is a strong plus.
  • Must be familiar with contemporary team building and leadership techniques and practices.
  • Must be capable of working within a team-oriented environment. Must have proven team building skills and the ability to promote them. Position may require occasional domestic or international travel.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.

Physical Effort: Work requires handling lightweight materials or equipment up to 15 lbs with no special speed or exertion.

Working Conditions: Ordinary office, shop, field, or warehouse working conditions

Hazards: Negligible. Little or no exposure to hazards.
