Full Job Description
We're seeking someone to join our Optimus SDLC team as a Senior Java/Scala Developer-Risk Infrastructure to lead the evolution of the platform Optimus within the broader Codetree ecosystem. In this role, you will drive developer productivity and reduce friction across the software delivery lifecycle by advancing platform engineering, large-scale developer infrastructure, distributed build and test systems, workflow automation, and AI-enabled engineering capabilities.

Optimus is the strategic risk platform for Morgan Stanley's Fixed Income business and is part of the broader Optimus Codetree used across Institutional Securities. The platform operates at significant scale: approximately 40 million lines of Java, Scala, Python, and C++ code, 400K+ tests, and 1500+ developers, directly supporting significant revenue for the firm.

The Optimus SDLC team owns the end-to-end developer experience for Optimus and Codetree users across local development, code review, build, test, release, and deployment workflows.

What you'll do in the role:
  • Build and enhance backend services, developer-facing tools, IDE integrations, dashboards, bots, workflow automation, and SDLC platform infrastructure.
  • Contribute to AI-enabled engineering workflows across coding, testing, build failure diagnosis, code review, documentation, developer assistance, and remediation.
  • Develop solutions that improve developer productivity, platform reliability, test efficiency, release confidence, and time-to-market.
  • Operate and scale build and test infrastructure supporting a large monorepo and extensive automated test estate.
  • Investigate complex infrastructure, build, test, and developer workflow issues to identify root causes and long-term engineering improvements.
  • Partner directly with developers through triage and user engagement, translating feedback into durable platform enhancements.
  • Build observability, metrics, dashboards, and automation that make the SDLC more reliable, transparent, and self-service.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams across Risk Infrastructure, Optimus, and Institutional Securities.
  • Develop solutions with security, permissioning, auditability, privacy, and responsible AI adoption in mind.

What you'll bring to the role:
  • 5+ years of experience in Java, Python, or Scala software development.
  • Ability to design and develop scalable backend services, developer tooling, platform infrastructure, or automation solutions.
  • Understanding of Git workflows, code review practices, build systems, CI/CD concepts, test infrastructure, and release automation.
  • Experience in debugging complex distributed systems, build environments, or developer workflows.
  • Ability to translate developer pain points into practical engineering improvements and platform capabilities.
  • Experience in observability, dashboards, workflow automation, bots, or developer productivity platforms.
  • Understanding of security, permissions, privacy, auditability, and responsible AI adoption within engineering environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical users and collaborate across global engineering teams.
  • Experience with large monorepos, custom build systems, distributed test execution, dependency graph analysis, or developer productivity platforms is beneficial.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted software engineering tools or interest in learning how AI can be applied safely and effectively across the SDLC is a plus.

All our positions are located in Montreal, Quebec. We offer a hybrid work environment, combining remote work and attendance in the office.

Knowledge of French and English is required.
