Job Description:

Our soon to be opened Harrisburg, PA area office is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing practice. In this role, you will collaborate with our team to lead, manage, and provide technical support for a wide variety of complex geotechnical and interdisciplinary infrastructure projects involving transportation, power/energy, water, federal, and other large-scale infrastructure across the region and nationwide. While this position will be based in our new Harrisburg office and work locally, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with colleagues in our Chadds Ford office.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Project and task management
  • Lead, manage, and provide technical support within a collaborative team of geotechnical professionals in the region
  • Provide engineering support on geotechnical projects during the exploration, design, and construction phases
  • Planning, performing, and overseeing subsurface exploration and testing programs
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers, commensurate with experience level
  • Lead and support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, building teams and industry partnerships, and aligning the relevant technical expertise to best solve client challenges
  • Serve as a client interface, establishing goals and objectives for project teams, and planning, scheduling, and managing resources to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget
  • Preparing and/or reviewing field test logs and geological/engineering reports
  • Review and evaluate instrumentation and monitoring data
  • Preparing and/or overseeing geotechnical/geological engineering analysis and calculation packages and creation of various other supportive drawings and graphics
  • Development of geotechnical design drawings and specifications
  • Perform and oversee construction observation of specialty geotechnical works and foundation construction
  • Some overnight and out-of-town travel should be expected

Required Skills/Experience:
  • 8+ years of relevant professional geotechnical engineering experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering (Master's Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering is a plus)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months
  • Extensive geotechnical background, including a strong fundamental knowledge of principles of geotechnical engineering and soil/rock mechanics
  • Previous soil/rock slope evaluation, remediation design, and construction experience is a plus
  • Prior relevant experience with transportation, power/energy, water/wastewater foundation/geotechnical designs, subsurface investigations and geotechnical recommendation reports is preferred
  • Relevant geotechnical expertise including but not limited to shallow/deep foundations, stability analysis, retaining walls, liquefaction analysis, deformation analysis, and foundation and settlement analysis
  • Prior experience with PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and/or power-utility projects is a plus
  • Knowledge of design codes including IBC and AASHTO
  • Experience with ASD and LRFD design methodology
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, MathCAD, gINT/OpenGround, BoreDM, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and data management computer programs
  • Experience with geotechnical analysis and design software such as: LPile, Group, MFAD, Slope/W, Slide, Dips, RocFall, RocPlane, Settle3D
  • Very good oral and written communications skills
  • Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and well-organized
  • Ability to navigate investigation and construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside

  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation

The compensation range for this position is between $100,000 to $140,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
