Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Firmware Engineer to join our Firmware Engineering team and support the development of innovative medical device technologies. This role participates in all phases of product development, from early concept and design through qualification, field testing, and clinical use.

The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership in firmware design and development, mentor engineers on best practices, and collaborate closely with hardware and software teams to deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality products in a regulated medical device environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead firmware design, development, testing, and implementation for embedded medical device systems.
  • Participate in all phases of product development, including concept development, design, qualification, field testing, and clinical use.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to define firmware requirements and system architecture.
  • Support hardware bring-up and assist in debugging new electronic designs.
  • Troubleshoot development, manufacturing, and field-related issues.
  • Apply engineering and scientific principles to evaluate and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Develop tools and methodologies to improve engineering efficiency and product quality.
  • Create and maintain firmware documentation, technical reports, and design records.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor firmware engineers on coding standards and development best practices.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Support verification, validation, and regulatory compliance activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum 6 years of embedded firmware development experience using C/C++.
  • Hands-on experience with microcontroller firmware development, including ARM Cortex-M platforms and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) SoCs.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, power systems, and sensor interfacing.
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills across analog, digital, RF, and firmware domains.
  • Experience working within regulated design control environments.
  • Experience with configuration management, issue tracking, and problem resolution processes.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing implantable medical devices, neurostimulation systems, or Class II/III medical devices.
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and safety-critical firmware development practices.
  • Experience with low-power wireless power transfer, coil systems, or RF technologies, including Bluetooth Low Energy.
  • Experience with automated unit testing frameworks such as Ceedling, Unity, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and implementation within regulated medical devices.
  • Experience with embedded real-time operating systems (RTOS), including FreeRTOS or Micrium.

Work Environment
  • Office and laboratory-based engineering environment.
