Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior FinOps Engineer with a balanced background in AWS engineering and cloud financial management. The role focuses on taking ownership of FinOps automation initiatives, implementing cloud cost optimization strategies, and strengthening the engineering capabilities of the FinOps team. The engineer will develop Python-based automation, optimize AWS resources, drive enterprise-level Graviton migrations, enforce cloud tagging standards, and build cost reporting and dashboards using Cloudability. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience implementing cost savings across AWS environments rather than focusing solely on reporting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
• Take ownership of FinOps automation initiatives and mature the engineering capabilities of the team.
• Automate the identification and cleanup of unused VPC endpoints and create merge requests across application teams.
• Drive Kinesis on-demand optimization and enforce S3 lifecycle policies.
• Support AI-driven automation that identifies non-compliant S3 buckets and creates merge requests for remediation.
• Lead enterprise-level Graviton migrations for workloads and AWS Lambda functions.
• Develop automation to enforce cloud tagging standards across AWS environments.
• Build Python-based automation and integrations, including AWS Lambda functions deployed through templates.
• Develop reporting and dashboards in Cloudability, including AI and token usage tracking mapped to individual consumers.
• Query Athena cost and usage tables as required.
• Implement cloud cost optimization strategies, including rightsizing, Savings Plans, and Reserved Instance optimization.
• Work with application teams through Git-based workflows and merge requests to implement optimization recommendations.
• Analyze AWS cost and usage data and identify opportunities for improved resource utilization and cost efficiency.
Required Qualifications
• Mid-level or senior infrastructure engineering background, such as AWS Cloud Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar.
• Balanced experience across AWS engineering and FinOps, with hands-on cloud financial management and optimization expertise.
• Current specialization in FinOps engineering rather than FinOps analysis.
• Hands-on experience implementing cloud cost savings and optimization initiatives.
• Strong Python programming skills for automation, integrations, and AWS Lambda development.
• Experience with AWS Cost Explorer and Trusted Advisor.
• Experience with Cloudability for cloud cost reporting and dashboards.
• Working knowledge of AWS services and capabilities, including VPC endpoints, Kinesis, S3 lifecycle policies, Graviton, and tagging.
• Experience with AWS Cloud Financial Management (CFM), including cost and usage analysis, Savings Plans, Reserved Instance optimization, rightsizing, automation, and FinOps reporting.
• Comfortable working with Git-based workflows and creating merge requests across application teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Basic SQL knowledge, particularly querying AWS Cost and Usage Report (CUR) tables in Athena.
• Experience with Cloudability Premium, including automated compute Savings Plans and Reserved Instance strategies.
• Experience with Turbonomic for automated cloud optimization.
• Experience across the full FinOps lifecycle.
• Experience with AI/token usage tracking and chargeback/showback reporting.
