Full Job Description
S.J. Amoroso Construction Co., LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator who can lead complex public works pursuits. This role combines technical estimating expertise, bid strategy, risk management, subcontractor engagement, and estimating leadership while working directly with the Chief Estimator.

Essential Functions and Conditions:
  • Lead assigned estimates and pursuits from initial document review through bid submission, final scope reviews, subcontractor listing, post-bid clarifications, and project turnover.
  • Deliver complete, accurate, and well-supported estimates within established deadlines.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, bid forms, special provisions, alternates, allowances, and owner requirements to identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, and project risks.
  • Identify scope gaps, prepare clear Requests for Information (RFIs), evaluate pricing risks, and communicate findings to the Chief Estimator.
  • Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and related pricing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of unit costs and production rates for self-performed work, including concrete and carpentry.
  • Generate scopes of work and bid packages for all trades.
  • Prepare preliminary project schedules for bidding purposes.
  • Assist in the preparation of project schedules and logistics plans for RFP technical proposals.
  • Support field management teams in preparing presentations on project scope, logistics, sequencing, and construction challenges.
  • Lead estimate turnover meetings with operations and clearly communicate project scope, assumptions, allowances, alternates, buyout opportunities, and identified risks.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, scope reviews, bid-day activities, client presentations, and post-bid clarifications.
  • Interpret schematic and design development documents for design-build pursuits.
  • Work with the Chief Estimator to review, evaluate, and implement department policies, procedures, and estimating best practices.
  • Assist the Chief Estimator in reviewing estimates and work products prepared by other estimators.
  • Mentor Estimators by reviewing work products, providing technical guidance, and helping improve department standards, templates, cost databases, and quality-control practices.
  • Work independently while collaborating effectively with estimating, operations, and executive leadership teams.
  • Lead the subcontractor bid solicitation process.
  • Solicit bids from qualified vendors and subcontractors for specified materials, products, and scopes of work.
  • Analyze subcontractor proposals for scope completeness, pricing, qualifications, and overall value.
  • Prepare project bid summaries, including trade coverage and scope comparisons.


Requirements:
  • At least seven (7) years of construction estimating experience; public works experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complete estimates for projects typically ranging from $20 million to $100 million.
  • Strong verbal, written, leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with ProEst (digital takeoff), BuildingConnected, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, scheduling software, and bid management platforms.
  • Experience with preconstruction services and alternative project delivery methods preferred.
