GEI Consultants is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Environmental Engineer / Seller-Doer to support and grow our environmental engineering practice in the Long Island and Metro New York market. This is an integrated leadership role with an immediate focus on client development and establishing a sustainable backlog. There is no existing backlog associated with this position, and the successful candidate is expected to translate established client relationships into near-term project opportunities.

Specialty areas of practice include environmental investigation and remediation, due diligence, environmental permitting, and NYSDEC Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) and NYCOER Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) projects. Primary responsibilities are to help lead, manage, and grow our Long Island and Metro-NYC area environmental practice while generating new client and project-related opportunities. Other responsibilities include assisting with recruiting, training, and mentoring staff.

This role combines technical leadership, project delivery, and business development, with a strong emphasis on driving sustained, profitable growth. The successful candidate will lead client development efforts, manage a strategic pipeline of opportunities, and deliver high-quality environmental solutions while expanding GEI's presence in the region.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development
  • Lead and execute a targeted business development strategy aligned with regional growth priorities for the Long Island and Metro-NYC market.
  • Build and sustain a self-generated backlog with minimal reliance on existing regional workload.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities, ensuring alignment between opportunity pipeline, projected workload and team capacity.
  • Contribute to and be accountable for annual bookings goals, securing new work from both existing and new clients.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to capture planning and pursuit strategy, including positioning, teaming, and go/no-go decision-making for key opportunities.
  • Establish and grow key client relationships, with accountability for client satisfaction, repeat work, and long-term account development.
  • Partner with regional and national leadership to support key account planning and targeted growth initiatives.
  • Actively promote cross-selling by identifying multi-disciplinary opportunities and assembling the appropriate internal teams.
  • Maintain strong industry visibility through client engagement, networking, and participation in professional organizations.

Project Management & Delivery
  • Serve as Project Manager or Technical Lead for environmental engineering projects, ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Oversee project planning, execution, and financial performance, including forecasting, risk management, and client communications.
  • Ensure projects meet GEI quality standards and client expectations.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development and technical excellence.

Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical expertise across environmental engineering disciplines, including site investigation, remediation, permitting, and compliance.
  • Support development of innovative and efficient solutions for complex environmental challenges.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across offices to deliver integrated solutions.

Operational Contribution
  • Support office and regional leadership in resource planning and workload balancing, aligning project demand with staff capacity.
  • Contribute to a high-performance, collaborative team environment focused on quality, safety, and client service.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
  • 15+ years of experience in environmental engineering or consulting.
  • Demonstrated success as a seller-doer, with a proven track record of developing client relationships and converting opportunities into consistent annual bookings.
  • Established, decision-maker level relationships with key clients in the Long Island / NYC market, with the ability to translate those relationships into near-term project work.
  • Strong understanding of the Long Island / NYC regulatory and client landscape.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and deliver high-quality results.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client engagement skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience expanding client accounts and cross-selling multidisciplinary services.
  • Experience supporting or leading strategic pursuits and capture planning efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow accounts and expand services across multiple disciplines.
