Full Job Description
The Opportunity

The client is seeking a Senior to Principal-level Environmental Engineer or Geologist to provide technical leadership and strategic direction across our remediation portfolio in Washington and Oregon. This role is ideal for a seasoned consultant who enjoys remaining technically engaged while also leading teams, mentoring staff, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients and regulators.

This is not a hands-off leadership role. You'll be directly involved in project strategy, design decisions, regulatory coordination, and construction oversight, with the authority and responsibility to guide projects from early planning through implementation.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead complex remediation projects in industrial waterfront and coastal environments
  • Serve as a technical authority and professional of record on select projects
  • Guide project teams through investigation, feasibility, cleanup design, and implementation
  • Provide senior-level judgment on regulatory strategy, risk management, and remedial approach
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, agencies, and project partners

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead and review environmental remediation projects involving soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water, stormwater, and vapor contamination
  • Serve as Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist of record, as appropriate
  • Direct preparation and review of technical deliverables including Phase I and Phase II ESAs, RI/FS documents, cleanup action plans, design packages, and compliance monitoring plans
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control for engineering calculations, cost estimates, bases of design, and integrated design and specifications packages
  • Oversee and participate in construction oversight, environmental sampling, and monitoring efforts
  • Guide and mentor project managers, engineers, scientists, and field staff
  • Lead client coordination, regulatory engagement, and stakeholder discussions
  • Support project financial management, including scope definition, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Contribute to strategic growth, proposal development, teaming partnerships, and client development

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a closely related field
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Licensed Geologist (LG/PG) in Washington or Oregon, or ability to obtain through comity
  • 10-30 years of experience in environmental consulting, remediation, and contaminated site investigation
  • Deep experience delivering complex remediation projects for public and private sector clients
  • Strong working knowledge of Pacific Northwest regulatory frameworks including WA MTCA, CERCLA, Oregon DEQ requirements, Sediment Management Standards, and related federal programs
  • Experience integrating upland and in-water investigation and remedial strategies, including dredging, sediment cleanup, and source control
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor developing professionals
  • Strong technical writing, critical thinking, and professional judgment
  • Willingness to travel regionally for project oversight, meetings, and client engagement

Work Environment & Travel
  • Pacific Northwest based
  • Combination of office work, field presence, and client engagement
  • Regional travel within Washington and Oregon
  • Flexible work schedule, provided client needs and project commitments are met

Why This Role Stands Out

They intentionally remain small, collaborative, and technically driven. Senior leaders are not removed from the work, they are central to it. You'll have real influence over technical decisions, project strategy, and how they deliver work to our clients.

This role offers the opportunity to apply decades of experience in a setting that values judgment, trust, and long-term impact over volume and bureaucracy.

If you're looking for a senior or principal role where your license matters, your expertise is respected, and your work leaves a meaningful legacy across the Pacific Northwest, we'd welcome the conversation.
