Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to help develop the next generation of products. In this role, you will design and implement embedded software for a complex, connected medical device that directly improves the lives of people living with diabetes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including systems, hardware, quality, and regulatory engineering to bring innovative products from concept through commercialization.
Join Insulet's R&D team as a Senior Embedded Software Engineer and help develop the next generation of connected medical devices that improve the lives of people living with diabetes. In this role, you'll design, develop, and test embedded software for innovative products while collaborating closely with systems, hardware, quality, and regulatory teams. We're looking for a hands-on engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, writes high-quality code, and enjoys working in a fast-paced, cross-functional product development environment from concept through commercialization.

Responsibilities:
  • Designs, develops, tests and documents embedded system software for new and existing Insulet products.
  • Ensures that their design is in compliance with Company policies, and that software activities are appropriate for the design and maintenance of medical products.
  • Writes and maintains design documentation and testing requirements.
  • Works with Quality, Regulatory, Marketing and Manufacturing to ensure that designs meet technical, regulatory and manufacturing requirements.
  • Works closely with other software, software QA, and hardware engineers to integrate, debug, and test systems.
  • Participate in product design reviews.
  • Perform other duties as required


Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field with 7+ years of industry experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to serve as a Technical Lead, providing technical direction, mentoring engineers, and driving software development efforts across internal and external teams.
  • Strong hands-on programming experience in C and/or C++.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software for embedded systems and resource-constrained environments.
  • Hands-on experience working with ARM, TI, MSP, or similar microprocessors and microcontrollers.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software architecture, debugging, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience collaborating within cross-functional product development teams to deliver high-quality, reliable software solutions.


Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of embedded software design, development, and debugging principles.
  • Experience developing software for embedded microcontrollers and resource-constrained systems.
  • Knowledge of communication interfaces and protocols such as I2C, SPI, USB, Flash, EEPROM, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), or other wireless technologies.
  • Understanding of operating system fundamentals, including multithreading, synchronization, deadlock prevention, interrupt handling, and real-time systems.
  • Experience with RTOS environments and object-oriented software design.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, hardware bring-up, and system-level debugging.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • Medical device experience or experience working in regulated industries is preferred.
  • Proven ability to independently own and deliver software designs from concept through implementation and maintenance.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across teams and levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated creativity in solving complex technical challenges.

Additional Information:
