Full Job Description
Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the build-out and improvement of electrical design for complex maritime systems. You will drive system-level electrical decisions, from power generation and distribution to isolation and protection, across vessels that integrate many in-house and third-party components.
You will also shape board-level design for new electronics built to survive the marine environment: salt, moisture, shock, vibration, and wide temperature swings.
Requirements What you'll do
Own and evolve the system-level electrical architecture for Greywright's maritime systems, including power generation, storage, distribution, and protection.
Design power management for marine platforms: battery and energy storage systems, DC and AC distribution, load management, and charging.
Define electrical isolation, grounding, and bonding strategies to protect components, prevent ground loops and galvanic corrosion, and keep sensitive electronics clean.
Set electrical interface requirements for in-house and third-party components, and lead integration across vendors.
Inform and review board-level design for new electronics built for the marine environment, including power supplies, isolation, connectors, conformal coating, and thermal design.
Lead EMI/EMC design and mitigation so radios, sensors, and control systems coexist on the same platform.
Own wiring harness and cable architecture, including connector selection, sealing, and routing for wet and high-vibration environments.
Perform load, fault, and short-circuit analyses, and design for safe failure and graceful degradation.
Support environmental and qualification testing for shock, vibration, salt fog, and immersion, and drive design changes from the results.
Troubleshoot electrical issues in the lab and in the field, and mentor other engineers.
What you bring
B.S. in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of electrical engineering experience, including system-level electrical design of complex vehicles or platforms.
Hands-on experience with power management in marine systems, including batteries, power conversion, and distribution.
Deep understanding of electrical isolation, grounding, and bonding, including isolated power supplies and galvanic isolation of signals.
Experience guiding or performing board design, from schematic through layout review, for harsh-environment electronics.
Strong knowledge of designing electronics for the marine environment: corrosion, moisture ingress, sealing, shock, and vibration.
Experience with EMI/EMC design and testing.
Proficiency with schematic and PCB tools (e.g., Altium) and with lab equipment for debugging.
Ability to lead electrical decisions across hardware, software, and outside vendors.
Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time when needed.
This role requires access to ITAR/EAR-controlled data; U.S. person status is required as defined by 22 CFR 120.62.
Nice to have
M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Familiarity with marine and military electrical standards (e.g., ABYC E-11, IEEE 45, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1399, MIL-STD-810).
Experience with high-voltage lithium battery systems and battery management systems.
Experience with hybrid or electric marine propulsion.
Background designing electronics for uncrewed or autonomous vessels.
Experience with CAN, Ethernet, and other vehicle networks.
Experience with environmental qualification testing programs.
Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret or higher security clearance; an active clearance is not required.
