Senior Electrical Engineer

Carrollton, TX

The Job

Our client's design engineering team is responsible for the electrical design and development of both prototype and production units across their entire product portfolio, from concept and detailed design through manufacturing release and support. This is a hands-on design role that also provides technical leadership on complex projects, working closely with mechanical, software, and FPGA engineering teams.

Functions
  • Own detailed electrical design work, including analog and digital design
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout, and ensure robust, manufacturable designs
  • Plan and execute design verification and validation activities, including board bring-up, troubleshooting, and performance characterization
  • Perform highly accelerated life testing (HALT) and environmental qualification testing (DO-160G)
  • Produce, maintain, and review technical documentation including HALT summaries, test procedures, qualification test reports, and product drawings
  • Take an electrical lead on specific projects, following department processes and standards and ensuring designs meet internal, customer, and functional requirements, including schedule commitments
  • Work closely with mechanical, software, and FPGA engineers to create integrated, multidisciplinary solutions
  • Conceive, research, and implement engineering design changes that improve manufacturability and robustness, in coordination with the sustaining engineering team
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies, standards, tools, and devices for integration into future products
  • Guide, mentor, and support the development of junior engineers

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of electrical design experience.
  • Strong background in analog and digital circuit design, including microcontroller, processor, and/or DSP-based designs.
  • Experience with symbol/footprint design, schematic capture, and PCB layout using OrCAD Capture/Allegro PCB Designer or a similar toolset (OrCAD/Allegro will be required).
  • Experience with network/Ethernet designs and common communication interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART).
  • Experience with hardware diagnostic tools including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and function generators.
  • Ability to research, understand, and apply functional and technical specifications, datasheets, and hardware manuals to electrical designs.

Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with embedded software design (C, assembly, etc.)
  • Experience with circuit simulation and analysis (LTspice, PSpice, etc.)
  • Experience with RTCA DO-160G environmental and electrical qualification or similar aerospace standards
  • FPGA/ASIC design experience (Xilinx FPGAs and toolset will be required)
