Job SummaryThe Senior Design Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of Bowmar's commercial and military aerospace electronic products. This position drives new product development initiatives, guides sustaining engineering activities, and ensures all designs meet customer, regulatory, and industry standards. The role emphasizes Lean Product Development methodologies while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, reliable products with the least waste.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of electronic and electro-mechanical products, components, and systems for aerospace applications.
- Analyze customer specifications and requirements; prepare technical proposals and bills of material for quotation packages.
- Perform detailed calculations and analyses to establish design parameters, manufacturing standards, and electrical specifications.
- Oversee and support installation and testing of electrical assemblies to ensure products meet engineering, performance, and reliability requirements.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure design manufacturability and compliance.
- Develop and maintain work instructions, routing, procedures, standard work documentation, and engineering change notices.
- Lead product design reviews using Lean Product Development, Least Waste Way Project Planning, and Value Stream Mapping.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on achieving highest quality, lowest cost, and shortest lead-time.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to electrical engineering staff.
- Support annual Strategic Deployment goals within Engineering.

Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required; master's degree preferred.
- 15+ years of relevant experience in aerospace, military, or high-reliability electronics design.
- Advanced experience with PCB design tools (Altium Designer PCB, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD).
- Proven experience designing electrical systems, circuit assemblies, and electronic components.
- Working knowledge of AS9100, MIL-STDs, and ITAR compliance.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead engineering projects and mentor engineers.
- Experience in Lean environments and continuous improvement practice.
- Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with a passion for engineering excellence.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:- Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception and focus adjustment.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Work is performed in an air-conditioned environment with consistently low noise levels.
