Full Job Description
Senior EHS Specialist
You will be the company's EHS owner. An outside safety consultant has assessed our current program and is developing our safety manual and core written plans. You'll take that foundation, put it into practice across every site, and run it day to day. You will work closely with engineering, operations and site leaders who carry out the program. You'll be based at our Los Angeles headquarters and travel regularly to sites in California and Georgia.
Responsibilities:
Implement and maintain the company safety manual and written EHS programs across all sites, meeting Cal/OSHA requirements in California and federal OSHA requirements in Georgia.
Stand up a powered industrial truck program under 29 CFR 1910.178, covering operator training, documented evaluations, recertification tracking and pre-shift inspection records for forklifts and container handling equipment.
Own safety training company-wide: identify requirements by role, deliver or source training, and keep auditable training and certification records.
Build and deliver site-specific safety orientation for new hires, contractors and vendors.
Train supervisors on their safety responsibilities, including incident reporting, hazard correction and site inspections.
Own the workplace violence prevention plan and training for California sites.
Own heat illness prevention, first aid and CPR/AED readiness, emergency action and fire prevention plans, and programs for lockout/tagout, hazard communication and PPE.
Lead the safety buildout for the new manufacturing facility, including hazard assessments, safe work procedures and readiness before operations begin.
Own environmental compliance, including hazardous materials and waste handling, battery storage and handling practices, safety data sheets and applicable permits.
Run OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping, incident investigation and corrective action tracking.
Conduct site inspections and audits, and track findings to closure with site leaders.
Coordinate with rail operations and regulatory teams where OSHA and FRA requirements overlap. FRA compliance itself stays with those teams.
Provide program documentation and evidence for insurers, customers and auditors.
What success looks like:
After 30 days: You've visited every site, gotten up to speed on the consultant's deliverables, and reviewed the current training and records.
After 60Days: Your implementation plan is approved, you've written the powered industrial truck program, and new-hire safety orientation is live.
After 90 Days: You're running the program across all sites, you've completed a full audit cycle, and you're ready to produce evidence on request
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years in EHS for manufacturing, industrial or heavy equipment operations.
Has implemented and run a safety program across more than one site.
Working knowledge of both Cal/OSHA (Title 8) and federal OSHA general industry standards.
Direct experience running a powered industrial truck training and evaluation program.
Experience designing and delivering safety training for employees and supervisors.
Able to work independently as the sole EHS professional, reporting to a non-EHS leader.
Willing to travel regularly between California and Georgia sites.
Preferred experience:
CSP, ASP or CHMM.
OSHA 30 General Industry, or OSHA 501 trainer authorization.
Experience with lithium-ion or high-voltage battery safety.
Experience with rail, transportation or a manufacturing facility launch.
