POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Senior Drawing Checker to lead the review and release of engineering drawings and MBD deliverables. This role ensures accuracy, standards compliance, and configuration control across all documentation supporting Axiom programs. The ideal candidate brings deep SolidWorks expertise, strong judgment, and mastery of ASME Y14 standards. The position requires close collaboration with designers and engineers to resolve discrepancies and elevate drawing quality. This individual will also drive continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and release processes. This position is onsite at our Space Station Development Facility (SSDF) in Webster, Texas.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review engineering drawings and MBD datasets for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ASME Y14 and internal standards.

  • Validate dimensions, GD&T, tolerances, notes, materials, finishes, and revision history for correctness and clarity.

  • Ensure 3D models, drawings, and metadata are properly linked and meet configuration management and release requirements.

  • Confirm title blocks, part numbers, drawing numbers, units, and document properties align with program standards.

  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between models and drawings before release.

  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to clarify requirements and implement corrections.

  • Mentor team members on drafting best practices, GD&T, and documentation quality.

  • Maintain and improve drawing standards, MBD guidelines, templates, and checking checklists.

  • Support agile project management practices to improve visibility and throughput.

  • Communicate status, risks, and quality issues to stakeholders and leadership.

  • Contribute to process improvements that reduce rework and enhance documentation quality.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • 10+ years creating and checking manufacturing‑ready engineering drawings to ASME Y14 standards.

  • 10+ years of SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD experience producing models, assemblies, and drawings.

  • Technical degree or CAD certification preferred (required if under 15 years of experience).

  • Expert understanding of drawing deliverables, units, document properties, title blocks, and release documentation.

  • Strong command of GD&T application and interpretation.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in fast‑moving, ambiguous environments.

  • Demonstrated judgment and proactive problem‑solving skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with a track record of meeting tight deadlines.

  • Experience mentoring designers or engineers on drafting and documentation best practices.

  • Familiarity with configuration management and release workflows.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with cross‑functional engineering teams.

  • Experience improving drafting standards, templates, or documentation processes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)
