Why this role existsMost infrastructure work is measured in uptime percentages. Ours is measured in whether a care team gets an alert about a resident who is deteriorating. Our devices keep collecting when the platform does not, but what stops is everything that makes the data useful: the models, the flags they raise, the alert that reaches care staff mid-shift. The substrate underneath carries continuous telemetry from tens of thousands of devices into a corpus that already holds 70,000 years of vital signs. As we scale toward hundreds of thousands of monitored patients, that substrate is ready for dedicated ownership, and you will be the first engineer whose full attention is on it.
What you'll own- Cloud architecture. AWS environment design, network and account topology, containerization, infrastructure-as-code.
- Delivery. CI/CD for the whole engineering org: merge to production, fast and reversible.
- Observability. Metrics, logs, traces, and alerting across services, telemetry ingest, and data pipelines.
- Security in the substrate. IAM, secrets, encryption, network boundaries, audit logging. HIPAA and SOC 2 implemented as infrastructure.
- Telemetry ingest at scale. Continuous streams from tens of thousands of devices in facilities whose networks you do not control.
- Cost. Compute, Snowflake, and data transfer spend, with the visibility to make informed tradeoffs.
Required Qualifications- 6+ years in infrastructure, platform, or systems engineering
- Ownership of production cloud architecture on AWS
- Infrastructure-as-code and containerized orchestration
- Experience scaling a production system through at least one order of magnitude
- Instrumenting systems with metrics, logs, traces, and alerting
- A track record of justifying infrastructure investment to engineering and business stakeholders, and driving adoption of the practices that follow
Preferred- Regulated environments: HIPAA, SOC 2, FDA
- High-volume telemetry or IoT ingestion on the cloud side
- Significant open source, systems that outlived your tenure, or a high-bar engineering background
