Sr. Data Modeler

The OMERS Products and Technology team is seeking a self-motivated and highly experienced Senior Data Modeler to join the Pension Architecture team. The team is responsible for modernizing OMERS' core pension administration system and related applications, while also providing architectural oversight for the organization's analytics data platform and associated integrations.

This role reports into the Director, Architecture and is important because it will help shape the data architecture and technical foundation supporting critical business solutions. In this role, you will help design and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable data solutions for large, service-oriented applications. You will apply your expertise in data solution engineering, data modeling, and data architecture to ensure that solutions align with business needs, corporate standards, industry best practices, and security requirements.

You will create and maintain a range of technical designs and architectural artifacts, including data flows, logical and physical data models, application information models, data migration designs, deployment models, and related documentation. You will collaborate closely with business, engineering, DevOps, infrastructure, and security leaders throughout the development lifecycle to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and adhere to established technical and architectural standards.

You will be responsible for:

• Lead data modeling and architecture activities supporting OMERS' legacy and modern pension administration systems, including systems with more than 2,000 tables and Employer and Member portal applications.
• Define and maintain data architecture standards, frameworks, and principles covering data modeling, metadata, security, master data, reference data, naming conventions, data types, and data quality.
• Design and maintain logical and physical data models for new initiatives and system enhancements, from initial requirements through executable DDL generation and implementation.
• Design data flows, migration strategies, source-to-target mappings, and data transformations that preserve data integrity and support successful system implementations.
• Provide expertise and guidance on data classification, data security, data masking, data encryption, metadata management, data governance, and data quality.
• Act as a trusted data subject matter expert during requirements engineering, architecture reviews, working groups, and cross-functional project discussions.
• Develop and publish data architecture diagrams, models, technical documentation, and related artifacts for review by business stakeholders, Security, Enterprise Architecture, Product, Development, and DevOps teams.
• Establish and maintain data definitions for database objects and contribute to a shared Data Dictionary and broader metadata management practices.
• Support multiple project teams by coordinating schema changes across development and testing environments and partnering with DevOps teams to plan and implement changes in production.

Required Skills & Experience

• 7 or more years of overall information technology experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on experience as a Data Architect, Data Modeler, or in a closely related role.
• Demonstrated experience designing data solutions for complex enterprise applications, including relational databases and large-scale transactional or operational systems.
• Strong experience developing logical and physical data models, database designs, data flows, data migration designs, and source-to-target mappings.
• At least 3 years of experience using a data architecture or data modeling tool such as SAP PowerDesigner, ER/Studio, erwin Data Modeler, or a comparable platform.
• At least 5 years of experience working with the Oracle database platform, preferably Oracle 19c or later, and related development and administration tools.
• Strong hands-on data modeling experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, or similar relational database platforms.
• Proven experience with database development and design tools, such as Oracle SQL Developer, SQL Navigator, Quest Toad, or comparable tools.
• Strong analytical experience with database programming languages, including Oracle PL/SQL, Microsoft T-SQL, PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL, or similar.
• Strong understanding of data integrations, conversions, migrations, transformations, and data integrity controls.
• Demonstrated knowledge of metadata management, data governance, data quality, data dictionaries, data classification, and related data management practices.
• Excellent analytical, investigative, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, with a strong attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to understand and translate complex business rules, processes, calculations, and system requirements into effective data solutions.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• A university degree, preferably a master's degree, in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience designing data solutions in the defined benefit pension industry, financial services, insurance, or another highly regulated environment.
• Knowledge of Master Data Management, reference data management, data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning concepts.
• Experience supporting actuarial, benefits administration, financial calculation, or other systems involving complex mathematical formulas and business rules.
• Experience with database schema deployment processes, DevOps practices, and promoting database changes across development, testing, and production environments.
• Experience providing coaching, mentoring, or technical leadership to junior data professionals.

The expected salary range for this position is $86,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year.
