As a Senior Data Center Infrastructure Electrical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for the design, architecture, and continuous improvement of data center infrastructure systems. Key job responsibilities
• Support the Data Center Design Engineering, Principal Engineering, and Hardware Engineering teams to design and develop innovative concepts into new mechanical cooling products (AHUs, chiller, pump skids, ADACs) used in AWS data centers.
• Lead the electrical aspect of new product design and development for mechanical cooling equipment, including motor controls, VFDs, power distribution panels, control wiring, and instrumentation integration.
• Collaborate with other disciplines such as mechanical engineering, structural engineering, controls/automation, reliability, QA/QC, and compliance to create well-thought-out products.
• Design and specify electrical systems for rotating equipment including fans, pumps, and compressors, ensuring proper motor sizing, protection, and control schemes.
• Create designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements while delivering a return on investment.
• Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical components, devices, and bill of materials for AHUs, skids, and ADACs.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries, including UL, CE, IEC, NEC/NFPA 70, and other applicable standards for mechanical cooling equipment.
• Prepare, review, and approve product design and drawings including electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, and bill of materials.
• Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during manufacturing phases.
• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly set up test processes and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems within mechanical cooling products.
• Develop and review control logic, interlocks, and safety circuits for AHU, skid, chillers and ADAC assemblies in coordination with controls engineers.
• Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
• Support of Operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review for electrical systems in cooling equipment.
• Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestic and internationally for up to 25% of the year.

A day in the life

You might start your morning reviewing design documents for a new infrastructure deployment, providing feedback that strengthens the overall architecture. By midday, you could be leading a cross-team project review, aligning engineers across regions on a shared technical approach. In the afternoon, you may dive into root-cause analysis of a recurring facility issue, proposing a mechanism to prevent future occurrences. Throughout it all, you will coach teammates, share expertise, and help shape the direction of critical infrastructure at Amazon.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field

- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience

- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities

- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Professional Engineering or Architectural License

- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production

- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
