Overview

Who we're looking for

Toyota's Dealer Lending Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Commercial Underwriter.

The primary responsibility of this role is to underwrite complex dealer credit packages for Toyota, Lexus, and Mazda dealers across the country by evaluating multiple packages a month with loan requests ranging from $1 million - $500 million. These loan requests include floorplan lines of credit, real estate loans, working capital loans, and revolving lines of credit.

Reporting to the Dealer Lending Manager, the person in this role will support the Dealer Lending Department's objective to maintain the portfolio of loans.

What you'll be doing

  • Perform financial analysis based on company prepared financial statements, tax returns, and CPA reviewed/audited financial statements to determine the Borrower's liquidity, leverage, and capitalization.
  • Complete bank statement, GL Trial Balance, and tax return reconciliations to financial statements provided.
  • Provide cash flow analyses for all proposed loans.
  • Evaluate, assess, and determine the risk associated with all credit requests and provide the approval authority with appropriate information to support conclusions.
  • Evaluate the risk to TFS based on a careful analysis of all financial information, security for proposed loans, and proposed corporate/personal guarantees.
  • Review legal structure to determine proper conclusions related to ownership, guaranties, and collateralization. For multi-franchise/corporation requests, consolidate the information into a cohesive, simplified version noting the inter-relationships and potential problem areas.
  • Review and analyze documentation related to loan approvals.
  • Review can include buy/sell agreements, LLCs, partnerships, and real estate documentation as well as standard documentation required for new wholesale relationships.
  • Consult with Toyota Financial Services (TFS)/Mazda Financial Services (MFS) Legal to determine any needed correction or modification to documents or approvals to ensure TFS risk management goals.
  • Participate in TFS/Private Label Group internal projects relating to system enhancement and process improvements.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports per request from upper management and work with cross-departmental teams.
  • Mentor and develop junior analysts, fostering a culture of accuracy, continuous improvement, and professional growth within the team.
  • Complete peer reviews of outputs to ensure accuracy and completeness in addition to providing constructive feedback.
  • Lead complex credit analyses and risk assessments for high-value dealer lending portfolios, providing expert guidance and final recommendations to management.
  • Ad hoc activities including, drive cross-departmental initiatives to enhance lending processes, systems, and compliance standards, ensuring alignment with organizational risk management objectives.
  • Lead Kaizen efforts by establishing best practices to maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance.


What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline or equivalent working experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in financial analysis of commercial loan underwriting, including complex organizational structures, cash flow analysis, industry-standard financial ratios/covenants, and establishing loan collateralization.
  • Experience presenting complex financial information and credit structure to a credit approval authority.
  • Experience reviewing financial information in conjunction with policies and procedures to identify key credit risks and deviations from operational standards in order to make suggestions to mitigate credit and operational risk.
  • Experience leading department projects and initiatives effectively and efficiently while managing workload of package underwriting.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).


Added bonus if you have

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Crowe Navigator, or similar financial analysis program.
  • Experience in underwriting expertise with automotive dealer borrowers.
