Duties and Responsibilities - Own the pricing function for both the General Cargo and Special Projects divisions, including spot quotes, RFQs, RFPs, mini bids and project tenders
- Deliver fast, accurate spot quotes with real-time carrier validation, and improve quote turnaround and communication of rates to customers
- Lead bid responses end to end: analyze customer lane and volume data, build lane-by-lane pricing, secure carrier capacity behind proposed rates, and meet every submission deadline
- Price Special Projects moves (oversize/overweight, heavy haul, flatbed, multi-stop and multi-modal), including permits, escorts, route surveys, accessorials and routing constraints
- Negotiate rates with carriers to maximize profitability and protect target margins on both spot and contracted business
- Develop and constantly update cross-border and domestic rate sheets and lane benchmarks, using historical load data and market tools, in order to have an advantage on current market pricing and trends
- Track quote and bid performance (hit ratio, win/loss reasons, awarded vs. actual margin, post-award volume compliance) and recommend pricing adjustments
- Monitor and communicate market conditions (capacity, fuel, seasonality, cross-border and regulatory changes) to Sales and management
- Establish a validated, diversified partner carrier network across North America in dry, reefer, flatbed and specialized equipment, and secure committed capacity for awarded lanes and projects
- Ensure carrier compliance and that KPI's for carrier performance are met
- Utilize expert knowledge of Truckmate to suggest improvement changes and better user experience for day to day operations and quoting; Brokerage dispatch, Command Center, Customer Service, Trip Tracer, Customer/Vendor modules
- Work closely with the Sales team and BDMs on RFP strategy, customer rate reviews and customized solutions
- Ensure deadlines and timelines are met providing the highest quality of work
- Ensure all parties are informed of route changes, delays, freight concerns or other issues as necessary
- Maintain high level of brand experience (timely response, customer education on 3PL market insight)
- Ability to understand insurance implications, including cargo value and liability on high-value project freight, and provide OS&D and claims assistance
- Support the team's goal of a minimum of 400 booked loads per month through competitive, profitable pricing
- Drive net new business opportunities by winning quotes and bids, supporting the Managing Director and team
- Achieve 100 scheduled freight bills per week as an operations team
Requirements and Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in the 3PL business, including 2+ years in pricing, carrier sales or procurement
- Proven experience building and submitting RFQ/RFP and mini bid responses; exposure to project cargo, oversize/overweight or heavy haul pricing is a strong asset
- Advanced knowledge of applications utilized by Logistics: TMW, Load matching and rate benchmarking software (DAT, Loadlink, ITS)
- Expert knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, lookups and working with large lane and bid datasets
- Advanced knowledge of North American geography
- Quick thinking: ability to do quick math, multitask, and provide off the cuff solutions
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written in English, with French as an asset
- Detailed working knowledge of various types of fleet equipment, including flatbed, step deck, RGN/lowboy and multi-axle configurations
- Working knowledge of permitting, escort and regulatory requirements across Canadian provinces and U.S. states
